Creating Sheets and Floorplans

So now that we have all the modeling completed, let's go ahead and start adding our views to our sheets and creating floor plans. So let's expand our views. And remember that our project browser is organized with discipline and then we have both sheet views and working views. So if we expand sheet views, we already have some views set up. So let's click on one overall and let's double click this Plumbing one overall plan.

And you can see this plan is both the sanitary, the drain waste vat, the water piping. So it contains all of the systems for our plumbing system. And it's also using a single line type instead of double line piping. So let's go ahead and add this to a sheet. So to create a new sheet, we go down to our sheets and expand it.

And right now we're organized with letters. So I'm gonna click on P for plumbing. Let's expand floor plans. You can see right now we have starting with 101D and 101W, D for drain waste vent or DWV, and then W for water. So we'd like to also create an overall floor plan. So when we're creating new sheets, it's always easiest to click on an existing sheet and duplicate it. So I'm going to right click and say duplicate sheet. We're going to duplicate an empty sheet. And so now we have this new sheet. We're going to just call this one one hundred one.

So I'm going to click into this sheet number right here and we can just change this to P101. And this is going to be our overall. So if we also want to change the name, we can click into the name right here, click slow, and then we'll just name this level one overall. And if we also want to make changes to the information right here, you can always right click on the project browser and we can make changes here. So if we wanna rename it, you can see we can click the rename button and we can change both the number right here and the name of this sheet.

So you can either change it on the sheet itself or right here, or you can right click and rename it. And then this little dialog box will pop up where we can do all the renaming. Let's click okay. So we have this empty sheet and we need to add a view to it. So to add a view, we actually go to our project browser. And remember, we have the overall plans expanded. Here's this overall plan that we were just at. So we can just simply drag this view onto our sheet and you can see it starts showing up and we can click. And now we have our view added to our sheet. So that looks great.

Now, if we need to change the scale, we can actually double click into our view while we're in the sheet, kind of similar to how CAD operates with paper space. So now we're in this view. So this view is actually active. And so we could go in here and we could modify and make changes or do anything we want. But what I want to do is I want to change the scale so it's a little bigger.

And you can see right now that the scales are grayed out, and that's because right now our scales are being controlled by our view template. So we need to go to our view template right here and click into it. And if we want to remove the scale from this view template, we can just select include and uncheck it, click okay. And now I have access to changing these scales. And right now we're at three sixteenth, and maybe I want to make it a quarter inch and let's see what that looks like.

If I want to get out of this view, I can right click on it and say deactivate view. And then if I hover into my view, you could see I can now move it around. And so we kind of want to move this into the middle here, something like this. We can also, as we click on our view, we can use our arrow keys and nudge the view over to something that makes sense. And if we need to change our viewport title or we need to move it, if we click it once, then we can move it to anywhere we want.

So we can move it maybe to the center if we wanted to do something like this. And then if we want to make this little line shorter, we actually have to click on our view and then you can see these little dots show up and then we can kind of drag these over like this. And there we go. Now, also one property I want you guys to recognize is right now if we click on our view and we go over to our properties, you can see we have both view name and title on sheet. So title on sheet, if that was left blank, you could see that it automatically defaults to the view name.

But a lot of times I actually like to override the view name because the view name is what it shows up in as the project browser. And so I might not want to use this on my sheet. So I actually prefer keeping the view name or title on sheet option and making that anything I want. So this is the parameter that's going to be used for the title right here. So I just wanted to point that out that I'm using that technique.

Okay, so this is looking great. So we have our overall floor plan, this is looking good. And now we'd like to create system specific floor plans. So let's create a domestic water floor plan and a drain waste vent floor plan. So if we double click into DWV right here, you can expand it and let's click on Plumbing one DWV. And you could see we already have this view created and that's because in the template we're already, you know, we already have this set up. So it makes your live a little easier. Now, what you need to do is we need to now put this on a sheet. So if we go to our sheets, so we'll scroll down and you can see we already have this view set up for drain waste vent. So let's double click on it.

And now we need to add that view to the sheet. So if we scroll up, we can now add plumbing01DWV and we can just add it to our sheet just like this and click. And again, if we wanna make it bigger, if we double click into the view and we can scroll into the view template and we can uncheck the view scale, or if we'd like, we could actually change the view scale automatically for all of the drawings that are on this view template. Now we only have one drawing or one view on the view template, so it really doesn't matter. But if I uncheck it here and then I can have access to change this.

So maybe we're going to use a quarter inch. That looks good. We'll then reorganize our view. And one thing I can also show you guys real quick is if you want the view to be in the same spot, we can use what's called a guide grid. And so we can actually select the guide grid by just using a window selection. You can see it's called guide grid. And this one, the name of this guide grid is bottom left. We can actually create new guide grids if we'd like, but this one will be basically the same for the entire project. So if other trades are using this guide grid, we'd have to be careful, like not to move it. So anyway, what we can do is we can click into our view here and then we can use the move command.

We need to make sure we uncheck disjoin and constrain, and then we can move from this point. You see the green right here? This is actually a reference plane. So we're going to click on this, and then we'll click the center here. And now we can move that view into this area. And if we have this guide grid on all of our sheets in our project, we can know that we have the view in the same location on each sheet. So that's great. Now, if we want to create another guide grid, let's make a copy of it. So I'm going to undo that. So if I go to View, Guide Grid, and then we can create a new one.

We'll call this one Guide Grid Plumbing. Hit Okay. And then you could see it starts out like this. And then what we could do is we could change the orientation of this box, something like this. And then what I'd like to do is kind of organize I'm going to click on my view and actually move it. And what I want to do is I want to move it to the location that I think looks good. So maybe center it up a little bit right here. And now what I'll do is I'll move my guide grid. So I'm going to use a window selection. I'm going to move it from this point to this point.

And now what I can do is when I create a new sheet, I can add this newly created guide grid to my sheet. So right now I have the sheet open and you could see if I go down, I have guide grid guide grid plumbing here. And so if I go to my other sheet that I created, so let's go to the one previously, this one right here. Instead of this bottom left, let's select the guide grid plumbing and then we can move this view into its place by clicking the move command and going from this point to this intersection right here. And now we've ensured that our views are in the exact same spot on both of our sheets.

Now, the next way I'm going to show you guys how to do this is a little easier. So if we go back to this sheet, which is our drain waste vent floor plan, what we can do is we can simply make a copy of this entire sheet. So right now we already have this 101W. I'm just going to select it and hit delete or right click and say delete. And then what I'd like to do is just make a duplicate of this sheet.

And that way I know the view will be on the same, in the same spot. So if I right click here, if I say duplicate sheet with views and say duplicate right here, I've now created an exact copy of that drain waste vent. Now what I need to do though is change the number. So I'm going to click into here and we're going to call this one W for water. And then I'm going to change the name right here and we'll make it water just like that.

And then what I can do is I can just select this view and simply go up here and change it to my water plan. Now I still need to change the scale. So if I double click into this one, I can now change the scale here. I need to remember, undo the scale from the view template. So we'll click here, undo the scale, and then we can change this to a quarter inch. Oh, I can also change it in this dialog box too if I just include it, but I also just make it a quarter inch. And that way all of my view scales for any type of water plans that I make will always be a quarter inch. So I can do that. And that looks good. And now I'd like to move this.

So I'm gonna select this view, hit the move command, and then we're just gonna select this corner right here and go right there. And now we've ensured that this view is in the same spot. Now remember, if we wanna move this title, we can click on it and just drag it around and move it, or maybe move it right here. And then if we wanna, you know, reduce that line, we can click on our view and reduce it just like this. Okay, so basically we've now created sheets for all of our different floor plans.

And the next step will be to use annotations so we can tag our plumbing fixtures and also tag all of our piping so we can notify the contractor of the sizes of the different pipes to be using. So we'll go over that in the next video.
