Adding Existing Shared Parameters to a Family

So so it it is unlikely or as someone who's put together two systems now, I hope for your sake that you don't have to build or don't choose to build from scratch your own shared parameters equipment schedule system. It is an enormous amount of work, and the the learning curve is just not very fun. So let's a more realistic circumstance that you're gonna find yourself in is you're gonna be working in a project in an environment where there is already a shared parameter system and schedules and equipment and stuff set up, but you need to know how to work with it. You need to know how to create new columns. You need to know how to get equipment a new family that you've created or maybe you've elected to use a bit of equipment from a manufacturer, you need to get that working with your system.

So we're gonna go through that now with an exercise. So here we are. We are we are in the we're in the project that we that we finished yesterday. So we've made our magic RTU for session one, and we would like to get it we we would like to get this tagged. We would like to get it on our schedule, our DXRTU unit schedule.

And so we will go through and show how you would do that. So first of all, we're gonna go to our roof plan, and I'm gonna tag this unit. And you see it's got a question mark there, which is suspicious. And I'm gonna click it because I wanna call it RTU dash one. And I'm clicking, and it's not letting me edit this field. Okay? And so why is that? Well, we need result tags are looking for a parameter of some sort in mechanical equipment, so we can figure this one out by editing the tag family. So the tag selected, I'm gonna say edit family. I'm gonna check out what's going on in here.

First of there's a lot going on in here, but I'll just pick this one and say label edit. And what this is telling me is that this tag that this label rather is looking for a parameter called SCOM equip ID. And SCOM equip ID is the parameter that we used for tagging most of our equipment, all of our mechanical equipment, air terminals, that sort of thing. So I know that my family needs to have s com equip ID. That's what this tag is looking for, and I can just close that without saving.

And so what that means is that this family doesn't have scom equip ID as indeed it does not because we haven't added any shared parameters to it yet because that's what we're gonna do today. No shared parameters. So not knowing that knowing and and already having the the shared parameter system, I you know, if I if I brought this family in or if I'd created it, I say, ah, I I need to add that parameter to this family. No big deal. It's basically what we just did.

So edit family, family types. You know, this is basically what we just did. I just need to repoint this at the other family. So I need to browse back to my my RevX shared parameters files. That's gonna be here. The master file. And I'm looking for, I believe, common as common equip ID. There we go. Hit okay. Common as com equip ID.

Yes. And I want it to be an instance parameter. I'd like it to be grouped under other. K. There it is. I hit okay. I'm gonna load it into the project and close this one. Yep. Don't need to save it. I didn't make any edits, so it doesn't matter which one I select here. And now the question mark is editable, so I can call this r t dash one. And if we click on this, I looked in here, it says RTDash1, and I could change that to two if I wanted to, and that would update the tag. So so that works. So we've got our tag working, so that's good. But remember, our goal is to get this on a schedule.

So I'm gonna go to my warehouse, and I'm going to grab well, if I know where it is here, I could grab it there, or I go to my mechanical warehouse sheet, and here we go. These are my options. I'm gonna grab the rooftop d x schedule. I'm just gonna copy that and come into my session two project. And I'm actually just gonna put it on the roof plan so we can see it.

Okay. So I've got my schedule. I'm just gonna move this up here so it's a little easier to see. Alright. So I've got my schedule, but it's not populating. It's not showing me anything. Why is that? Well, let's find out. A lot of, I mean, a lot of this is just troubleshooting, like figuring out why what you think is supposed to happen isn't happening. So, you know, I'm looking at this. I'm saying, well, this is an RTU unit, and this is an RTU schedule. It's not showing up. If something's not showing up in the schedule, it's probably because there's a filter rule. Schedules wanna show you everything unless you filter stuff out. So there must be a filter associated with this.

So I come over here to the filter. I say edit, and it's telling me that it's filtering by SCOM shed shed filter contains RTU. I'm like, ah, alright. I need another shared parameter. I need SCOM shed filter. Okay. So I come back to nope. Went to the wrong place. So I come back to my family. I promise this is this is per my script, this is the last time I'm gonna do this the slow way. So I go edit family. Alright. Tides. Blah blah blah. Share parameter. Select. I actually happen to know. I think it's in mechanical equipment. And you'll notice, like alright. I guess I can.

SCOM. Think it's in here. Sched filter. There we go. S com Sched filter. And I actually want that to be typed. I want it under. K. And here, I'm actually gonna I'm gonna set it here. RTU. Okay. Load in a project and close. Yes and no. And I do want to overwrite the parameter values because I changed the value in the family editor to RTU. I would like to just push that in.

It's an efficient way to do it. Here we go. Here's my sheet. And it is showing up on the schedule because we've now got a filter. We've now got the parameter in here as filter that is saying it's an RTU, and so it is filtering and it's showing up. So we're happy with that.
