So now we can we can edit this. Right? We can start adding in information. We can start saying what type it is. We can it's not letting me it's not letting me add anything. Like, why isn't it letting me add anything? You I'm sure you know. It's because we haven't added all of these parameters. Right? So if I look at the fields for this schedule, we have this whole big long list of shared parameters. And now, of course, we're not like, forget it. I'm not adding those one by one the way I have been doing. Right? Like, that's just insane. As far as I can tell, Revit out of the box doesn't offer a better way to do it than one by wanting it, which is why there are some fine folks who create plug ins for Revit and make the program actually sort of functional.
So we are going to show how to push all of these shared parameters in. And so one way of doing this is just take a screenshot of that. And what I'm about to show isn't something you're gonna have to often do. So there's more than one plug in to do this sort of thing. We at Rev X use dRoots one, and there's a free version and a paid version. I believe ParaManager is still under the free thing, so you could do what I'm about to do. It's just the the free downloadable plug in. Some of the other stuff is under the premium version. It's, like, a €105 a month or something like that. There are other plug ins that do this sort of thing.
Or, basically, if if you're gonna do if you're gonna be doing scheduling in Revit, you're gonna need one of these plug ins that does it. I know some other people use c t c. There's some other ones. At any rate okay. So we're so we're in ParaManager. We're in the project. With this plugin, there's more than one way to do this, but I'm gonna I'm gonna do it this certain way. Family. So I go to the families tab, and I'm gonna find my family, which is r t u s t one. And then I'm gonna hit the import export button, gonna import shared parameters, and I'm gonna say, yes.
This is the shared parameter file that I wanna look at. And so I've got got my list over here I can look at. So I just do a search for SCOM, so I know I need notes, and I think I need those and description and heights. And I've already got that Unit, size, weight, service. Quip, I already got that. Might need that. I'm dying. Don't need that. Location, yes. Model and manufacturer.
Then I'm gonna do s fan SA. And over here, I I don't and and this schedule isn't necessarily looking for all of the supplier fan parameters, but it doesn't really hurt anything to have more parameters than you, strictly speaking, need. It's nice to only have the ones you need, but it's more annoying to not have the one you need than to have one you don't need, if that makes sense. So I'm gonna click that, and I'm gonna sorry. Add those.
SFan SA, and then s coil d x cooling. I've got a bunch of cooling ones, so I'm just gonna grab all those. Okay. And so now I should have a bunch of parameters added. I'm not gonna go through every single one because you get the idea, and it just add add, like, another thirty seconds to this. Okay. Then it says, okay. So this is the family you're gonna add parameters to. These are the parameters you're gonna add to it, and it gives you some options here. So I can choose here whether I want these to be instance or parameter.
Generally speaking, I want them to be instance. There's a few that I want to be that I that I for sure want to be typed, And so those are unit type. It kinda says it in the name, but also model and manufacturer. So manufacturer wants to be typed. Model, I want to be type based. Probably, I want weight to be white weight based as well. I can just do a search for that. Type. K. And then that'll probably be good.
I can change these after the fact. It's not difficult to change these under whether it's instance or type after the fact. So this is not a do or die decision at this point. And then I like these all to be grouped under other. I've been having trouble with dude saying, forget what you said.
We're gonna stick it where we wanna stick it. So we'll see if this works. Then you say apply, and it just goes through, and it does it. And as you could tell, like, if I had a whole bunch of families over here that I wanted to add this group of shared parameters to at once, I could just select all of them, and it would add all the shared parameters to all those families. So let's say, you know, I've I've created a new, very common shared parameter that I wanna apply to everything, like I'm gonna put it in the tags. I could just add it to all the parameters very quickly. Gives me a little report. Close. Okay. Good.
I'm done. And now if I come in here, I can it's it's added the parameters to the family. I can add I can do all of that. If I come up here and I select my family, I can see I've got a whole bunch of shared parameters. As you can see, it puts some of them under text, and it puts some of them under other. I I told them all to go into other. It didn't quite do exactly that, but it's close. So my list may vary a little bit on that one. Michelle will get that ironed out soon enough. Okay.
So I've just so I've just pushed so I've just pushed parameter the parameters in so I can go and fill out my schedule now. And that actually wasn't too bad, just selecting you know, seeing what the schedule is looking for, doing a quick search, and pushing them all in. So, yeah, not too bad.
