Okay. So there is our template that is now our project model. Now it's time to go into Revit and open up the architecture model because we always wanna check out the architecture model first. Here we go. Now it may or may not be a central model as you receive it. If it is, just click detach from central down here. This is not a central model, so I can just open it. Now there's a few things I'm doing here in the architect's model. One, I just wanna get familiar with how the architect has set up their model. I wanna get familiar with the space.
I wanna get a sense for how mature their model is, and then there's a list of things in specifically that I'm looking for. So first, I'm just going to show you what I do to check out a model. I'm gonna go to the view tab and create a brand new three d view. And I can see that there's a this is a section box that's cutting the building up. I'm gonna move that up so I can see what the whole building looks like from the outside. I'm noting that we've got some scope boxes here. I'm gonna pull that down so I can see inside. Okay. So I've kinda sliced the roof off. I can see what's going on in here.
I'm gonna pull this in here like this. See what's going in here. Pull the section box down even further below that lid. Okay. I see we've got some ceilings even further. K. Alright. I have a general sense for the model. Now I'm gonna go through my list of specific things that I always check-in an architect's model. I do go to their to their sheets.
If I am going to steal their title block, now is a good time to do it and use it for my own project. If I were to do that, I would just click it, say edit family. Now I'm in the family editor, and I would do a file, save as, and then I would bring it into my project. I'm not doing that on this project. Don't need that title block.
I always check phasing and phase mapping, see if they have something interesting going there. So go to the manage tab, go to phases, and look and see if this is standard out of the box phases or not. Existing and new construction is standard. Phase filters, look if there's anything interesting going on in here. This is all out of the box, so it's nothing that I have to worry about. This all looks fine. There's there's no way to tell. Just it's just by looking and knowing at this that you can see that it's out of the box, that I can tell it's out of the box. One thing to look out for is if there is a phase here called demo, it's kind of a red flag. It's not how Revit's phasing is supposed to work.
This is one reason why I always check it. If there's a demo phase that that that that means that it might be set up in a funky kind of way, that isn't really how Revit is designed to work. But since the Revit since the architect might be using it in that way, I may have to somewhat match that. So that's something to flag if you do notice it. But this project is all it's a new construction project.
It's out of the box stuff here, so no surprises. Gonna look for scope boxes, and like I said, I I did see one. Here here's this building scope box is what they're calling it, So if there were any others, I would note that as well. Use of dependent views. I wanna it's interesting to me if they're using dependent views.
This will make more sense as you do more model setups. But if you don't know what a dependent view is, it looks like that, like a floor that's nested in here. But there are none in this project, so don't have to worry about that. If I were going to do the by linked view method for my setting up my backgrounds, I would make particular note of the view names that they're using on their sheets. I don't anticipate doing that for this project, so that's less important.
That'll be covered in later videos. Now a very important one is I wanna check the project base point and survey point and see what's going on with their siding. So I'm going to create a new floor plan. I need to uncheck this box down here and go to level one, and I'm gonna go to visibility graphics. That's VG.
And scroll down to site category and turn on internal origin, project base point, and survey point. And I'm looking to see if this is all zero zero zero or if it is something else. If it's something else, that's something I might have to pay some attention to in my MEP model setup because I want my MEP model to be in the same space as the architect's model. There's a lot to this. We have different videos talking about this whole system, what to do if the architect is doing something creative and clever here.
But this is all at zero zero zero. So the the green and red arrows, that's the project origin. That is the zero zero point of the model space that does not will not change. It does not move. And then you have the project base point, and you have the survey point, which are two different sort of project zero points, and you can have it rotated and a whole bunch of stuff.
So beyond the scope of this video series, but it is important to notice. And I'm also going to note where it is just visually, and I might take a screenshot of it and put it on my other monitor so that it's just a visual double check that when I link in the architect's model into my MEP model, that it is where it is supposed to be. And then I wanna check out levels. So I'm just gonna go into any old section and look at levels. So I see there's level one, and there's a roof level.
I also see they've got this, like, this room lid level here, which isn't associated with any it's not associated with any sheets or anything like that. There's nothing up there. It's just the top of these spaces. So I'm just noting that that exists, but then I probably don't need to do anything with it in my MEP model. So that's just level one and roof. Simple enough. Alright. And that is pretty much it. I feel fairly familiar with this architectural model now, and so I'm ready to get on into my MEP template. So I don't need to save this.
I can just get out of it, and I will do that. And I don't need to save changes, and I'm out of it.
