Organize Files and Open 2D Links Model

So in this video series, I'm gonna be setting up a Revit MEP model where the backgrounds are CAD backgrounds. We don't have a Revit architectural model. We only have architectural backgrounds. So we're gonna be working in project XCAD. So the very first thing we wanna do is bring over our template models over. So I'm going to go to my project assets folder. And I need my template. And I also need this model called the two d link model. This is gonna be the model where we're going to hold. It's gonna be a container model for the architectural CAD backgrounds.
So I'm gonna copy both of those and paste them both here. And then I'm going to move the two d link model to my links folder. And then I'm going to rename my models. Next, I'm gonna go to Revit and I'm going to open this two d link model. Gonna single click on the model and I'm going to click detach from central.
Open it and I'm gonna detach and preserve work sets. Before I do anything, I wanna save as a central model, exit, and then create a new local model. So I'm going to go to file, save as, project, and notice that Revit has renamed the model we're in. It's appended a detached to the file name. You can see it also up here.
This isn't what we want. We want to save as over this model right here. So single click it, it will change the file name. And just to satisfy yourself that you're doing what you want, you can hit options, and you'll see that make this a central model after save is by default checked, and you can't change that. Hit okay and save. Okay. We've saved. We've created the new central model. You are now actually in the central model and you don't want to be. This is the only few seconds you will ever want to be in a central model.
So immediately close the view and go and reopen the model. Single click it again, and make sure that create new local is checked. And you can verify that you're in a local model because the model will have appended your username to the end of the model.
