Copy Families and Schedules Into Project Model

Okay. So let's get some families and schedules into our projects. First of all, I'm gonna open my project, and that is let's see. Project 42 BIM. Here's my project 42 MEP model that I set up. I've got create new local checked. Open that, and, it's okay to overwrite the existing copy. So here I am in my project space. I'm just gonna open up a working view, my mech working o one view. Here we go.

I see my stuff here. So I've, you know, I've I've done nothing yet, in this model. It is freshly set up. Starting to get ready to populate it to do some work. I wanna do some production in here.

So let's go get some families. So I'm gonna start with air terminals. So I'm gonna say that I want a round duct connection two by two, you know, 24 inch by 24 inch air terminal. And now if I look at this, I'm gonna notice that this family is MSA diffuser round connection, and it has these four types, 12 by twelve, twelve by 24, 24 by 24, and 24 by 48. So that is these that's these three four types rather.

And this is telling me that, like, look, this this is the family name and these are the types. So it's saying multiple types selected. So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna just select this 24 by 24. And, again, look look at what it's doing here. It's it shows these four types. Okay. So I'm gonna select that. I'm gonna hit control c. Then I'm gonna come over to my project space, and I'm gonna say control v for paste. And there it is.

And now it's in my model. Here it is, the MSI Diffuser Round Connection. Now if I open it, you'll notice there's only one type. There's a 24 by 24. It's because when you copy and paste families in, it's only gonna bring in the types that you have selected.

It's not gonna automatically bring in all of the types. If I wanted all of the types, if I wanted another type, I could, I would have to select those as well. So let's say I also wanted the 12 by 12 and the, 12 by 24, but not the two foot by four foot one. Again, I'm gonna copy that, paste it in, and there those are. So now if I select this family, it shows that it's got the 12 by 12, the 12 by 24, and the 24 by 24.

And now I can delete these out of my space because I'm not quite ready to start laying things out yet, and I don't wanna floating elements in my model. So I'm gonna delete them. I use keyboard shortcut DE for that, but they're still in the family. So if we if we scroll down to families air terminals, we'll see that we have our air terminal in here, and there's just the one, that we've got. So we can, we can drag and drop that into our model, or, of course, we could also use the keyboard shortcut a t for air terminal, and it's going to default to whatever the last one was that was used, which is that one.

Okay. So we've got our air terminal in the space. I also want since I'm here, since I'm doing it, since I'm thinking about it, I wanna bring in the schedule. So, I'm going to go up to I'm gonna open up my sheets. I'm gonna go to my schedule sheet and have that open here. Then I'm gonna come back over to my warehouse model, and zoom out a little bit. And I've got this view activated, on this sheet, so I'm gonna right click and say deactivate view. And then up here, I have my AirDevice schedule. Now right now, there's a few different options. This is kind of an overall air device schedule with all the different parameters and columns you could possibly want.

I I honestly use this mostly for management of the families. And there's a couple of different styles of air devices, of air device schedules. You might want one versus the other depending on how your firm does things. Just it's just what do you wanna schedule versus show on the plans versus, you know, cover and specs, whatever. So I'm gonna choose the style b, and I'm gonna say control c.

And I'm going to, come back over to my project sheet, my schedule sheet, control v, and I paste it in here. Now you notice, there's nothing in here. It's it's unpopulated, and that is because schedules only schedule families that are in the model space. So if we come back over here to MEC working o one and say AT and I place a couple of, diffusers, come back over to my schedules. Here we go.

It has populated, yet we've got our diffuser showing up in the schedule. And I can I'm gonna hit c s for create similar, and then I'm gonna change this to a 12 by 12. And I'll place two in here. Back over the schedules, and there we go. We've got, you know, the b one is the 12 by 12. And, of course, you'll probably wanna update the marks and the information in here per your standards. That's completely customizable. But that is how simply to get a family in and to get a schedule into your project. So let's do a couple of others. Why don't I pull in some PAV boxes?

And I know that I'm just going to have a spread of them. These are the left hand no. No. These are all of them. So I'm just gonna grab all of these because I I just know on this project, I'm gonna use all of them. So I'm gonna copy those. Networking. Paste. And I gotta select all of them. Select all of them. Deselect that room tag. They're gonna delete them. So they're now in my project. Again, if I typed ME for mechanical equipment, it's it's the only mechanical equipment family I have is this VAV box, so it's going to suggest that I want one of those. So it's in the project, but not in the model space because I deleted it.

And then I want to grab the schedules for it. So this one is a type schedule and project schedule style. So I'm gonna copy that and paste into my schedule sheet in the project. And there we go. Again, not listing anything because nothing's modeled.

So I'm going to model some VAV boxes. I've got that style, and then I've got some little ones. Okay. So let's see what that looks like. So on the type schedule, we're showing just the two types, because it only shows one line per, unique type.

And then on the project schedule, it's gonna list each and every single one. And the marks are blank. So let's see if I, for example, if I tag these really quick and I called this one b a b one, b b two, b b three, then it would it would show those. Okay. So I think you get the idea. That's how you copy and paste, families and schedules into your project.
