How to Edit Most RevX Mech Equipment Families

In this video, I'm going to show how to edit the dimensions of a mechanical equipment family. So let's say that you've got your heat pump unit in your project, and you get a new selection. It needs to be a different size. You went with a new a different manufacturer. Whatever the case may be, this no longer accurately reflects the equipment you need, and there is no equivalent unit that matches what you need in the warehouse.
You need to create something new. But it is basically the same equipment. It's a heat pump, rectangular, side discharge, it's got connectors off the side of it. How do you do that? So all of the equipment, all of the Rev X mechanical equipment is designed as much as possible to be generic in terms of representing equipment, but not necessarily specific equipment. So if you look at this family, let's look at a three d view for this family. Let's go working, new work three d. Here's this family over here. You can see it is just a box with a clearance zone and a little arrow so that people don't get confused at which way the air goes, which way the air should go. It's also got let me put thin lines on.
It's also got a connection to represent the refrigerant lines and it's got an electrical connection over here. This is pretty basic family. And now if we click the family and we go into edit type, scroll to the bottom of the parameters, we can see that it's claiming to be a Daikin r x t q three thirty six whatever. And it has the following dimensions of the box. So let's say that this needs to be a Mitsubishi ZTL f 24, I don't even know, I'm just making something off of the top of my head, but it needs to be different.
All you really need to do is come in here, update the manufacturer and model information, and then update the dimensions. And the dimensions to update are here, so we can do that quite simply. So I'm going to say this is a Mitsubishi, and by the way, all of the Rev X families have this model manufacturer family in there. If they have information in there, even if you're not scheduling the information, I highly recommend that you make use of these, it'll help you keep track of what the unit is actually claiming to be even if you're not scheduling these actual parameters, because the last thing you want is a unit in the model that is wrong. If you don't want to use these, simply blank them out, remove any information that might be in here.
Okay. So the Mitsubishi, the new model that we just got handed a cut sheet for is the TVI 24. I don't know. I just made that up. So now now the model manufacturer parameters are not claiming something that's incorrect, and I come up here to my dimensions, I look at the cut sheet and I say, okay, the equipment length is actually it's bigger, it's four foot three inches to two inches.
The height is a bit taller, it's two foot nine, and the width is it's a little bit thicker, so it's it's 16 inches. And then the clearance front dimension, I mean, probably it's 18 inches as well, but let's just say for the sake of the argument that it's 22 inches. And now I can I've got the unit over here. I click apply apply and I can watch what happens. So click apply and it gets a little bit bigger.
Voila. We now have our Mitsubishi TVI 24 and that took just a couple of seconds. So that's generally speaking the approach to updating families. Now this is a very simple family, something like sideways HU, it's got duck connections, it's a little bit more complex. If we hit edit type in here, we can see that we've got some parameters called duct bottom connection distance from rear, duct bottom height, duct bottom width.
This is controlling the duct size, their location on the unit. You might have to do a little bit of guessing and checking to see what's being controlled here, so let's see duct connection bottom duct bottom connection distance from rear that's set to one inch. I change this to six inches and I look at what well, it's just gonna break stuff. Oh, maybe it didn't. So I can see that it moved this connection to the right by a bit, so that's what it was doing.
So now I know what that is controlling. Let's set back to one inch. You can see that that moves back to where it goes. So that's the duct bottom connection, duct duct top connection is this one, and I can change these as well. So you can get quite far and just looking at the parameters over here in edit types or in type properties for the dimensions to update the families as you need.

That will teach you all of the skills and knowledge you need to know to be able to confidently tackle editing a family like this and updating it and keeping your standards up to date.
