Hey guys, Ryan here. I'm here with John, John Chan, the electrical department. We got Tyler Disney, the mechanical, What was the BIM Manifesto, AKA What other names did you have? The BIM Manifesto was the main one. BIM Manifesto himself, the OG of Revit Training? Probably, right? Might MEP for sure. Think my first video was 2011. I don't know if that's the first, but Well, I mean the first good one. That's all I meant.

He was how I learned how to like build families. I watched one of Tyler's videos, how the systems connect. And I think you were following somebody, one of the other dudes that was probably the OG of like building stuff. Oh yeah. Go with the flow.

Yeah, it's a classic. Yeah, go with the flow. If you guys have ever Google, with the flow, Revit PDF, and you'll see it's like this whole document about how to create families and flow through systems inside of Revit. And that's pretty much like still to this day, I don't think people are utilizing that kind of stuff, which is it is what it is because what we really do is we just, our job is to create documents, right? We do all the engineering on other stuff using calculators, using notepads, using Excel.

We don't really do it inside of Revit. I'm sure some people do, but that's what we're trying to do, us three, is we're trying to start to use Revit and teach how to use Revit in a way that really helps with some of our calculations and takes some of the painful stuff out of it so that you can just focus on the fun stuff, which is like modeling and figuring out like how to do things and how to move things around like quicker. But yeah, modeling can be really fun when you know what you're doing. It's my favorite part. I love to put stuff in It so just looks so cool.

What is Rev X? It's just that me, John and Tyler have started this business. We were working with MEP firms for about two years and we just decided now that we have, we've seen like how to build templates. We've seen what people want. We realize we like really want to make like a new kind of system or product for small MEP firms, but also medium or large, it doesn't matter. But it comes from, obviously we have what we call workflow videos. And if you go on our website, you can kind of get a taste down here. We have basically all the workflow videos. You can see Tyler's pretty face here. And this is all in a learning platform that we have.

And so like when me, John and Tyler, like when we wanna do things like we just meet, we meet together, we go over things, we'll do modeling, we'll practice and it's really made a big difference. So feel free to ask questions. You can hold them to the end though, because we're going to just try to go from when it starts. We're gonna try to get through as much as we can in those ten, fifteen minutes.

What we really wanted to do though for this session is just to show off like how we think about modeling inside of Revit. Everything that we've done, we've built custom. So if I go here, this is the actual little project that you're gonna see us model today. And so we're gonna get as much covered as we can today going over how we model on this project. And then on those live sessions that are for only the people who purchased our Launchpad and Foundations course or workflow videos, they'll get some more advanced concepts.

So we'll talk about things that we don't get to today like scheduling, we'll talk about tagging, we'll talk about how we document things. So like the stuff that actually we need to do, the modeling is fun, it's great, but at the end of the day, we need to know how to do a lot of other more advanced techniques to make our lives a lot easier. So that's what we're gonna try to focus on for the the paid sessions again. And that's next week on Friday and then the week following. So it's just really, you know, per trade is just two sessions, really.

If you only want to go to plumbing, you only have to go to the plumbing one. So that's one hour per week. So it's not that much stuff and you will get a lot, I think, from those little sessions. And then if for some reason there's other topics that you missed or something, all of those are in our workflow videos. So again, if you miss some topics, they're all recorded right here for you guys to watch whenever you have an issue and anybody who's a member of our Rev X system, you get access to us to email questions.

So what you get is you basically get a model that has been set up and it's blank. It's ready to go. It's ready to for you to model and you get our foundations, the whatever discipline you select. It's like this is the mechanical warehouse, for example. This is where the families live. The the the full on one that we have, our pro version, has got a whole bunch of other stuff.

The foundations has what you need for that project, but it's also, I mean, pretty extensive. You could do a lot of damage in the rest of your projects with this. So that's highly valuable, to be honest. You know, air terminals and fans and boxes and everything. So so you get all the stuff you need. You get the model. You get the architecture linked model. You get the families you need. And then the workflow videos that you can work through, shows you how to set up the models, you know, on your computer. And then just step by step, lesson by lesson, you go through and you build, the whole thing.

So at the end of it, you have a model that you've made and you have a PDF sheet set that you've produced yourself. And we'll show you at the end a little bit more of, like, what that final model looks like. Yeah. And and so all that's to say, the foundation, like, if you buy the thing, you get all this stuff. But also, like, for today, we're gonna show you some stuff that you can use regardless of whether you get foundations. Like, I'm gonna be talking about some concepts of how to go fast modeling in three d. We're all gonna be showing you stuff that's gonna be really interesting and useful that you can take in using your practice, you know, starting now. So Yeah. Alright. Right.

Yeah. Yeah. I can see your screen. What we're looking at here is what we call projects.

And essentially, this is one of our teaching models. It's fairly simple in that you just have a couple of rooms on one floor. You have a little bit of open space. I think essentially, if I flip over to the finished view, it's basically a box that you can learn a lot from. And you'll see My finest work. It's I made the architecture model. Yeah. You're right inside, Tyler. You modeled this. Is it Yeah. It's fantastic. But, yeah, we got some doors. We got some open space, some meeting rooms, and, like, you could you could do a lot with there. So this is what we're gonna use to teach, And I like that. It's simple enough that we can get through it.

Unlike that school model that comes with Revit in, like, 2019 or something, that is just huge. And sometimes it's hard to digest. The model's too big. But, yeah, essentially, we're gonna start with, you know, just electrical. You know, when I do an electrical design, you can start with single line or you can start, like, laying out your space. We always have to make, like, a distribution system first. Right? Because everything circuits to it. So some of our most basic elements are, like, panel boards, and we're just gonna copy them in in what we call, like, a warehouse. So what I'm showing you here actually, this is my full warehouse.

The I don't have the foundations ones open. Probably should have. But the essentially, the foundation one is, like, we give you, like, you know, a panel out of here, a couple life fixture. Yeah. It's like a subset of this. Like, you know, one or two of the receptacles, one of everything. It's like a little, you know, sample of your buffet. But in here, we essentially give you the like, this is the pro package. This is the whole thing. So, like, our families are all sitting in this warehouse.

And then what you need, you can just take this and copy it into your project. And this is nice because if you ever wanna update your stuff, this is your one source of truth that you can use. So, like, if you update this in your central location, and then everyone grabs from this, and it's all updated the most recent. And the best thing about this is, like, you can copy this in your project super easy. So, like, you can see I I have this all grouped together already. So, essentially, it's like we we group the stuff that we want. We hit the copy button, and then you just come over here to your project. And we're gonna just paste from clipboard. And the oh, right. Shoot.

I already did that. I already did that, so I'm not gonna I'm gonna try to avoid shoot. Did I I might have made duplicates. Oh, no. No. I didn't. Okay. Anyways but you see, essentially, the stuff just got brought into this project now. And from here, you can start just placing them on your floor plan. So And I'm ready to go, John. I'm sorry. I didn't mean you go first modeling. Oh, I'm sorry. I just needed some time to get my stuff open. Oh, okay. You want it back? I'll take it back to you. Yeah, yeah. I'll start. All right. All right. Right. Let's see what we got here guys. Entire screen. Let's do this, share.

All right, I'm gonna So what I was trying to show you guys is we have two little warehouses we've been talking about. We have our foundations warehouse.

So that is all the stuff you'll need for the project X project. So we're just going to take all this stuff, but I also do wanna show you there is a pro package warehouse that we have. And so this is usually what we give to the firms that work with us. You can see I have some things that I'm continuing to add, but there's a lot of stuff in here. I got all kinds of plumbing fixtures. I got drains. I got grease interceptors, booster pumps, valves. We got carriers here, backflow preventers. So all the kind of stuff you'll need in the pro warehouse and we're constantly adding to that. We got schedules.

We got all kinds of stuff. So anyway, what you'll get for the foundations is you'll get the subset of that warehouse. So you can still try our stuff and get used to it and stuff. And you'll also, as a bonus, if you buy today, we're gonna do a bonus family creations course. So we're gonna show you how to kind of build a family.

So we'll give you some good techniques. So you will be able to take this and build upon it if you guys wanna do that. Totally up to you. So what I'm gonna do, like John said, is I'm just gonna start off by selecting all the stuff that I want in my project. And then I'm going go up here to the filter button because I don't need all the tags and stuff, but I do want model groups, pipe accessories, pipe fittings, plumbing equipment, all this stuff.

I don't need any of the tags or text notes. So I do that and then I group it and we'll call it Plumbing Fixtures and then we'll click Okay. And then we have this group down here and here's a little trick for you guys. If you go down here to the model groups and you can actually right click on this and say copy to clipboard, and then in the project that you're in, go to a floor plan, it doesn't even matter. You can literally just go to modify, paste from clipboard, and it will paste that group into your project along with all the fixtures.

So you don't actually have to paste the stuff right into the view. Now, Tyler, when he's showing it, he's probably gonna take an actual unit and paste it in because we don't want all the mechanical units, But for plumbing, we typically want most of the stuff. All right. So I already have all the stuff in this project, so I didn't want to paste it again. So I'm going to start over here in this little water service room area, and we'll just start drawing some piping.

I'm going to probably use keyboard shortcuts through most of this, but for now I'll just start drawing some pipe. We're going to start with one inch and I'm going to start at negative three space six. So if you want like three foot six, you can do three space six. So negative three six below the frost line, right? And then we got to make sure it's on the right system. All right, I'm already messing up. Great. Good stuff. It's kind of fun when we mess up because you guys can see that, you know, it happens to everybody. Oh, it's still not working. Oh, boy. Okay. Oh, you know why? I know exactly why. All right, we're going to go up to 10 feet and we're going to go over here and click right there.

All right, so I got to make sure my view range is correct. So I'm just going to do VR for view range. Well, it's in my template. I'm going to go here. We're going to type on and we use view templates to keep everything consistent. And you can see I had negative three, so I went a little too low. But once I set that everything's fine. All right, so now I got this. I need to add a backflow preventer and so I'm always going to open up a three d view. And now in our little template, we have everything pretty much set up with all of the view templates assigned.

We have, you know, all of the floors, all of the three d views we're gonna need. We have working views and sheet views. So in working views, you can do whatever you want. You can add notes, you can do all kinds of stuff. And then in the sheet views, that's the stuff that goes on your documents. So I'm always gonna, in plumbing especially, I'm always gonna have a three d view open. And I usually put it to another screen, but for now I'm just gonna kind of put it right there. And we're gonna use this three d view for a lot of things. So I need to put a backflow preventer here. So I would get it from my warehouse. It's a pipe accessory. I got it right here. And let's just put this two inch in here. I know I put a one inch whatever in there. That's fine.

So there's my backflow preventer. And the reason I have a three d view open is so I can check these things. You can see the inlets here and the outlets here. I want to flip that. So there's a little flip button, but now it's upside down. There's a little rotate button. We're going to rotate that. That's good. Great. Awesome. So that looks good. We're going to go down here. And then there's another little trick. I can't get to the middle of this chase. It won't snap, But I can use a detail line.

So if I go to annotate detail line, I'll use wide lines. I'll just draw something right there. And then I got a midpoint and I can just kind of drag this across. And this is in my working view, so it will not show up on my sheets. And now I can literally just go all the way here to that point, and then I can drop my pipe down to two feet and I could start drawing this way. That looks great. Let's start adding our fixtures in here. We're gonna start with our water closets. We got some tank water closets in here. All right, so I'm gonna put it to the side here and then I'm gonna use my align command right here.

And then I'm gonna move this fixture to the wall. What the reason I do it like that is so the connectors are in the middle and you'll see why later. And then also the water connections are at the wall. And remember, these fixtures are just for us. They're not for showing. We actually want the architect's fixtures to show, so they'll be hidden in the sheet views. So if I go to my sheet view, it won't show. All right, I need another one over here. Let's mirror it. But now the connection's on the wrong side. That's fine. Let's just mirror it again. We'll just undo copy and boom, there we go. All right, let's do a urinal. So I'm gonna start typing in urinal here. All right, we got a standard one. All right, let's just eyeball it this time. Let's put a lavatory in here. All right, lavatory wall hung, great. All right, let's do it off to the side.

We'll align this guy just like this. And we can't really mirror that because then it would swap our connections. So you can do create similar and then I can just hit the space bar twice and that rotates it. And then I can just put it right in the middle there. That looks great. And then I can just kind of go crazy with my connect into buttons. I can just go connect into, we have a horizontal connector on there. Oops, wrong one. Going too fast. Connect into, we got a horizontal connector. Boom. Oh, wow. That didn't do what I wanted it to do. That's okay. Sometimes it does that.

So if I start drawing some piping from here like this, and I'm going to undo automatically connect there, we got that. And then from this, I can just do trim extend and we could select both of these and then it makes that connection how I want it. And then I'm going to use connect into for this guy and we're going to do horizontal connect into. There you go. That's much better. We'll do this one connect into. We're gonna use the horizontal water. That looks good. Do the same thing with these connect into horizontal. This one.

Man, when I did this yesterday, I felt like a lot more relaxed. You guys are making me nervous. All right, we got our Performance pressure. Got cold water in here. No one in here. Oh, here we go. So we got the sink way over here. Here's a cool little thing. Now what we've done, what I've done in this warehouse and especially my pro warehouse is I have these model groups already done for me. So if I expand these model groups, you can see I have the sync double.

I'm gonna drag it into my view and I'm gonna click. And you can see we already have this double sync with all the plumbing and all the things I need for it, right? And so we're gonna go here, we're gonna rotate it 90 degrees. If I can get 90, there we go. And then we're just gonna move this guy from this point into the wall right here like that. And then I'm gonna ungroup it and look at that. And then I can still access these little grips and kind of move it. And now over here, look at that. I got all this stuff that's already done for me. Now I need to move this sanitary. So I'm gonna move it over to this way. I'm gonna move the vent piping. It's gonna go at a 45 degree angle over here. That looks good. Okay.

And then I'm just gonna connect my water. So I'm gonna delete this fitting right here and I'm gonna use my trim extended command and go all the way over here. Now this is a, I think a half inch. So that's a pretty long run for a half inch. So I'm gonna tab and it will select, well, let me connect these two for a second. I'm going to actually tab this little branch right here and let's just update this to three quarter inch because that's a long run for a half inch line. Depends on your pressure, obviously. All right. And then we got, so that's all connected. Let's do some, let's do a water heater in here. What's my time looking like? All right, we got systems. Couple minutes left. All right. Well, I have to have a couple minutes, right?

Because I got to show this All right. We're going to place our water heater. I want my hot water to be on this side because I want it to kind of like go this way. So I try to be strategic. I'm going to move this guy up to maybe like seven feet. So I'm going to hit seven here, jump it up. We're going to connect into, we're going to click Okay, Okay, look at that. And then we're going to go over with our hot water. So I'm going to start going over this way. I always put my hot water to start at 10 foot three. We can always change this later. And then we'll just go kind of somewhere right here. And then we're going to drop this down to two feet. And we're going to go across because we need to get hot water these things. And then we're going to kind of go up.

So this is going to be with a recirc pump and we're going to go over that way. We're going to go over over here and I'm not lined up. That's okay. I'm going to use my align command. There we go. And we'll trim those together. Well actually we'll just connect them like this And then, oh, that was not at the right spot. Oh, did I not do ten foot three? I forgot to go back up. That's okay. We can fix that. All right, we're going to delete this fitting right here. We're going to go up to ten foot three. All right, and now I'm gonna do is my trim commands like this. And then I'm gonna trim this one.

And you gotta be in a floor plan for doing trims like this. All right, so I got that. And then I'm gonna tab into this. We're going to make all of it three quarter inch for this. That looks good. Oh, I need to do a recirc line. All right, let's do that. So we're going have a recirc line off this one. I'm going to do create similar. Let's make this 10 foot six. So 10 space six. We're going to do recirc. There we go. There we go. Oh, it might connect, might automatically connect was off. You see that? So it didn't automatically connect it. That's okay. All right. And I'm just using create similar for that.

And then I'm going to go off this way. And I'm just going to connect this right at my water or my cold water line. I need to turn that back on. So I'm going to do draw a pipe. Let's turn it back on. And that's fine. Let's trim this together. Oh, it didn't work. Hold on. I don't know what happened there. All right, TTR. Boop. Oh, man, you see this? All right, we're just gonna pretend that's working. I'll fix it when Tyler's going.

All right, so we got that. And then let's put a little recirc pump here. So it's actually a pipe fitting. And the reason I did that is because a lot of times we change, sometimes we've changed the pipe size of these things and this one will allow it to automatically update. So if I have all this selected, if I changed it to like half inch, you can see nothing. We don't have those little pipe increases or anything and it just works. So anyway, that's why I made it a little fitting. I'm going to try draw a pipe this time. Let's see if that works. Yeah, I don't know.

I'm going to have to fix that. All right, so we got our recirc, we got our water. Let's make the hot water connections right here. We'll just do connect into hot water horizontal right here. Oops, going too fast guys, I'm sorry. I'm going to do create similar hot water horizontal here. Click here. Hot water horizontal. There we go. I'm almost done. Hot water horizontal. Okay, and I'm going to rotate so I can see this thing. All right, there we go. All right, cool. And so in the live sessions, some of the things that we're going go over.

So I basically just modeled the domestic water system. But some of the things we're going go over are how to do automatic sizing. So I'll show you all that. And then we'll also go over how we are tagging our floor plan. I'm gonna open up the sheet view just to double check that it's looking okay. So here's our sheet view and you can see it's single line. We have our up and down symbols and we also have hidden our fixtures. They're still there. So if we click on it, like right here, you can see it still shows you the connectors, meaning they are there, but they're hidden. So I use like a specific technique that I will show you guys how I do that.

And you can still tag them. That was the one thing, like you can't just have them like not showing at all because then the tag won't show up. So I can still tag these things like this. And obviously it's smart. So when I change this guy to water closet one, it's going to change for both of these. All right. So Tyler, go for it. It's your turn. Yeah, right on. Let me share my screen.

Gober. So hi, man. You got so much done in that period of time. So mechanical, right? One of the keys to doing fast stuff in mechanical is actually pulling some of the design some of the design and analysis stuff into Revit, particularly early in a project.

Revit can be really helpful at getting quick rule of thumb type design in, and then you can offload some of the burden from engineering to production. Now sometimes engineers are doing the production, but it can still be a great way not to necessarily replace your low calcs methodologies, but to just get going faster and quicker. So here I am. I'm just gonna demonstrate how I would approach this. So I've got a sheet that is just set up for my own kind of use so that I can see the floor plan and my schedule.

So the first thing I'm gonna do for analysis is I'm gonna create some spaces. And then there's a place spaces automatically button, which just pops them all in in there. And you can see I've got some custom space tags. I'm just gonna move out like that. We'll take a look at those in a second. And then I wanna pull the names in from the architect's room tag. So I hit the space naming and I get I pull in those names. And then I wanna do my zoning. So I'm gonna hit the zone button, and I'm gonna grab that center warehouse space. And I wanna call it RTU 1 because I'm gonna have a rooftop unit for that.

Say finish editing zone. So and again, I'll just box select these. This is gonna be a two one. Finish editing zone zone. This is gonna be a two two. That's actually what I want. So finish editing zone. Now Revit has this funny little bug. They may have fixed it in later versions where these tags haven't picked up the change, but if you jiggle the tags, it updates. Oh, Revit. That's hilarious. These ones were already okay. Okay. So I've I've done my let me turn Thickline on. So I've done I've got my spaces in.

I've got my HVAC zoning done. And there's also kind of a prettier zone plan over here, so you can just kinda see, you know, what your zone plan is doing. And my my schedule has already started to populate, and it also has kind of a problem with with the zone tagging thing. So we're gonna come over here real quick to the zone air distribution effectiveness parameter, and we're just gonna fill it out. It's not gonna take too long, like, fussing with the details of this and bore you.

You know how this works. And then updated it. So I just needed to jiggle the tag and it made those those come over. So just a funny little bug to be aware of. So this should look fairly familiar, right? This is the basic ventilation calculation. And this is built based using built out of the box Revit parameters, some shared parameters that I made, and some calculated parameters. You could make this pretty easily in an afternoon if all you have is like the knowledge that I did this. And Revit will kind of do this for you, but it's kind of black boxy, which is why I made this so that I could see exactly what it's doing. I could check it.

I can export it to Excel. I can import information from Excel. So this just gives me control and comfort that I know actually where these numbers are coming from. So we gotta come in here and we gotta define the spaces. And so if I come in here to space type, building is just its default. So what was this? Electrical. So I'm gonna pick an electrical thing, and this has got I can fill in the defaults for things like outdoor air per person, outdoor air per area, etcetera. So that's what's gonna populate these these things here. So this is a conference space.

Conference meeting. This is office. Let's go with an open plan. This is like dining. And you can define your own space types like you could create your own space types and just have like your standards.

Active storage. This is like lobby, restroom, men's restroom. This is also like mechanical space, electrical mechanical, And this is like a workshop. Okay. So that's populated the information here.

I'm getting my numbers. Let's come over all the way to where it's getting me my VOZ numbers. Then I've got a column here for specified or design outside error. That's for me to type in to look at this and, you know, and make a decision like, okay, I want this to be 1065, 2180. I want this to be 30. I want this to be 200. Bathrooms is $0.10 $0.04 65. Right? And I can get that going. This is a calculated parameter that once I get my supplier in there, it will calculate it.

And then over here, I just this is basically a kind of rule of thumb based on CFM per square foot for overall supply CFMs that I want. So I just built this in here so that I could, you know, do that. So obviously, you would use your own design intuition of knowing, like, your project, your climate, everything. For this, I'm just gonna type in one CFM per square foot. It's gonna give me an overall supply error based on rule of thumb.

I'm really careful to, like, note where this is coming from. And then here, I can enter the design supply error that I'm actually choosing to go with. So this 192722526101051153020. This column's cool. Once we start placing air terminals in the space, it's going to report how much supplier we're actually delivering and we can compare it to this.

So we'll take another look at that in a second. So I can do a lot with this. I could export this to my engineer and say like, Hey, does this look right? Are we good with this? They could, you know, if you see it, whatever. Or I can just get going because I've now got all this information in there. All right. So that's enough for now fiddling around with that. Let's do some actual modeling. So here is my working view for the floor plan.

I wanna drop an RTU on the top of this. So I'm gonna pop over to my warehouse. And in the next section, we're gonna talk more about this. This family this RTU family is magical. It's like a Swiss army knife for mechanical equipment. You can do just about anything with it. So I'm gonna copy that into Myspace and paste it in. So no no digging around in the Internet. You don't have to go to reps and get stuff. If you have a cut sheet or even just an idea of how big your equipment should be, you can make that happen pretty quickly.

So for this one, I'm just going to come in and say it's actually got a condensing unit. If I hit apply, it'll show me that. So there's my condensing unit. And I'm to say, actually, that condensing unit is four and a half feet long. It's going to adjust that. I can make adjustments to all the duct connections, pipe connections, everything else. Won't go into that detail here. So we're going to put that here. Then I'm going to pull my section to quickly get this set at a more realistic spot. And then we're gonna hop into three d.

And modeling in three d, so few people do it. And once you learn how to model in three d, man, it just makes you go so much faster. So I'm going to start drawing my return air duct off of this. And to drop down, I need to tell it to drop down. So I'm going to go negative five, and Revit's going to do that.

And then I'm going to do that. So there that is. And a key point here is when you're modeling, particularly vertical distribution stuff, over send it and then nudge it in a section to get it where you want to give Revit enough space to make the fittings. So we're going to do the supplier now and again. So for this one, we don't actually want to come off horizontally. I just want like a vertical stub because I'm going to tap off of that. So I'm also going to do a negative five. But to get it to set, I just hit apply. So there's my duct, and I can cap that end. Now I wanna come off with round duct that's gonna distribute to the space.

So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna click on this guy over here, and I'm gonna say, okay. What elevation was this at? I wanna change the reference level to MUPL one, and I'm close to 18. So I'm just gonna say 18, make my life easier. Nice even number. Then I'm gonna say D T. I'm gonna start drawing duct. Want the level to be M E P 01. I want the elevation to be 18. I want it to be round straight tapped, And we'll we'll talk about routing preferences in in a later session.

So round straight tap is what my choice is. And the diameter, I'm just gonna guess 24 inches for now. And then I'm gonna mouse over this, and I'm going to tab until I'm getting this side face. So not this one. I don't want to come off that way. I want to come off here. So Rev is going to do something half right and half not what I want. So it's going to do that. But the tap is coming off in this from the center of this, which is what I want. So I'm just gonna trim off that stuff that I don't want.

And then this, I'm gonna pull out. And I'm paying attention to the blue dotted inference line, which is telling me that I'm at a 90 degree angle. So if you can see that on the screen, there's no blue dash line. And then now there is, it's telling me that that angle is 90 degrees, which is what I want. So I'm gonna do that. And I want that a little bit, a little bit further. Yeah, something like that. Cool. So I've got that. And then I want, you know, I want the other, I want it mirrored.

So I'm going to so I'm going to tab select that, and I'm gonna deselect the tap, and I'm gonna mirror, mirror command, and I'm gonna pick the center line of that duct as a mirroring access, and it's going to do that. Then I can use the trim command to trim that guy in there. It's giving me warnings because it doesn't like the fact that my ducts are larger. My taps are larger than the duct. Fair enough.

So I'm going to use the, what is it called? The slice tool. I'm to make this just a bit wider. And then that fitting there needs to move up just a little bit, which I can use shift arrow keys or something else. So okay, so I've got my I've got my duct modeled. I'm gonna hand it over to John, and then we will pick this back up in just a little bit once John and Ryan go again. Yeah. Can you sync? I wonder if the spaces you put in, I could just reuse them. Oh, yeah.

Oh, wow. Well, are you gonna are you gonna wing it? Oh, yeah. By the way, guys, we're so we're all in physically different locations. I'm in Alaska. I don't know. You guys are in the East Coast somewhere. We're we're on ACC. So we're so this is a cloud hosted model. Yeah. This is really nice for when you guys don't have, like, a central server to host it on and you all wanna sync with VPN. Like, that's the other option that we worked with for a while. Or not us, but I've worked on it where we had it, like, on an actual server in some room that we owned. And then you had a VPN into the office to load that project, which could be really slow and glitchy. Let's see.

Oh, And one cool thing is what we'll show is what? Oh, sorry. I was just noticed you had some questions, some plumbing questions from the field. Well, we'll get to those. We'll get to those after you're done. We're gonna try to get through the modeling fast, and then we'll do questions. Gotcha. I'll be looking at them. Nice. Okay. So share screen. Here we go. So, yeah, now the spaces are in. Like, I can even take advantage of these spaces as well. So, like, the first thing that we typically do is, you know, we drop some panels in, circuit them up, and then we start putting receptacles or lights or whatever in these rooms, and we circuit them to the panel. And these spaces will help me with the naming of that. So let's see. Let's go over here to the systems. It's gonna start go ahead and putting an electrical panel. We have a whole bunch of stuff in here, so I'm just gonna pick branch panel. I like to include the front clearance of mine. So let's say we wanna put a panel here, and let's I don't know.

Let's drop another one maybe on, like, this side, just so that I can circuit everything here to this panel and then run one conduit over. Let's see. Actually, let's I'm gonna move this. So here's the great thing about our panels. I can literally just grab it off the wall, hit space bar a couple times, and then slap it on another wall. And right away, you can tell that it just aligns right up to it. And I can go to, like, a, well, three d view here by clicking on that section box, and they're in the room. Let's see if I cut into the room a little bit. They're at the right height. So wonderful.

Alright. So I have them in here. I'm going to just circuit this stuff up. And doing so really helps with maintaining your panel schedules across all your loads. And if you're doing a sub feed, that also carries a load from one panel to another. So let's do that real quick. Gonna go three phase, two zero eight, one twenty. Perfect. So I circuit that up, and then I'm gonna set the distribution system to 208120. And then over here on this panel, I'm gonna do the same thing.

I'm gonna power it up. I'm gonna go three phase. And then let's say I want to feed this from this panel. So go ahead and, let's see, select panel, and then we can feed that from here. So you can see, like, there's this little arrow that kind of links these two together. So now these two panels are electrically circuited in Revit. So, like, if I circuit something to this panel, it'll actually show up as a load under here. And what I want to do is let's do I could do feed through lugs, but I will just leave it as a breaker. Alright. So as a breaker, I can go ahead and go to a schedule.

So I'm gonna use default schedule. And then this is gonna be my second panel. So actually, let me name this one first. This one's just gonna be r p one, and then that panel on the west side, we'll call this r p two. Let's make this like a 60 amp sub panel, something like that. And let's okay. So the RP one, let's do like two whoops. Two twenty five. Perfect. Alright.

So now we have the primary panel and the secondary panel set up. Gonna create a panel schedule for this one real quick too. Awesome. And then this one, like I said, was RPRP2. Sweet. Okay. So our panel schedule is set up. And then now one really cool thing with, like, the spaces, let's say we wanted to, you know, put a receptacle, I don't know, in, like, this restroom over here. It was really easy to add in. Basically, I go up to systems, click a device, and then you just press the tab.

We can set this to, let's say let's say, 42 inches. And I'm just gonna drop it right here. And if I circuit this up, I'm gonna go one twenty, hit circuit, and I'm gonna put it to actually, I don't think this does this one have a distribution? I did not. Okay. Let's do that. So I set the distribution, and then I'm going to circuit this to RP two. So it's circuited to this panel down here. I'm gonna draw just a wire real quick and put a tag on here. You can see that it goes to R P 2 Circuit 1.

So if I go here to R P 2 Circuit 1 and I hit the oh, of course. Let me not name this. One second. This is let's see. Room number alright. So this is supposed to grab the the room number here. So like it was supposed to be Women's 10104. So I can go in here. Uh-oh. I'm for oh, it's locking up on me.

Uh-oh. This ain't good. Come on. Clear. Oh, no. And the danger of live tech demos. I know. It did my clicks are can I can I edit in here? Okay. Yes. I can edit in here. For some reason, the schedule was glitching out on me. Let's say, like, Room 104, enter. Let's check the schedule again. Okay.

So when you're when you put the space in, it was supposed to populate the space in here with it. So, like, that was the benefit of putting it in there. It'll say, like, Receptacle Room 104, And it it drops the load in here. And then the the great thing that we did with circuiting all those panels together is that if I go over here to this panel schedule, you'll see that in phase a, that load still carries over. The receptacle had the connected load and the demand factor and all that stuff.

That all is interconnected now. And that's really helpful for when you're trying to figure out, like, if your main service is sized correctly. Because all of this your loads get pushed through from both panels. Then And this is a summary of, like, all your loads. And as you add more stuff in here, like when we do lighting and equipment and all that stuff, this all populates with the demand factor that I set. And then that'll give you, like, a total estimate demand. And then you can use that as kind of a basis for your service size. So I'm probably at my time limit already. We could probably switch over if we wanna go back to Ryan real quick. Go back to Ryan.

I'm gonna get a little more real estate over here. All right, that looks cool. All right, is probably my favorite thing to model in Revit is the sanitary because it's I don't know, it looks cool, I guess. All right, I'm going to start at my last fixture. Oh yeah, one thing to mention, I'm not going to slope my piping guys. This is a small building, I probably wouldn't do it anyway. But I am going to show you guys some techniques to sloped piping, and we'll do that in the paid sessions in the next two weeks. So I will show some sloped piping techniques, but usually, especially for a project this small, I'm just gonna just gonna go straight. So we're gonna slope off. We're gonna be at negative two.

And I'm just gonna go to a point about right here. And let's just go straight down this way like that. We're gonna go out the building now. This pipe needs to be a little bigger. I'm gonna grab those and let's make it a four inch. It's pretty standard. And then when you wanna go from an elbow to a T or a combo, in my routing preferences, which another thing we'll go over in the paid sessions, gonna show you guys how to set something up like this. And all these fittings that I have, like, it took me a while to kind of work them out because they fittings are one of those things that is annoying in Revit. So let's add a clean out on this thing. Let's do clean out.

We'll start. Let's just do a floor clean out right here. Click like that. Create a connect into. And so you can see that automatically makes that connection. That's looking good. We're going to start over here. We're to draw some piping. So I'm going to create similar here. And we'll start right there. And we'll go over here. That looks good. Let's put another this time, we'll put a wall clean out. So I'm going to do fixture, start typing in wall, wall clean out. We want to be on the men's side because most of the maintenance dudes are men. All right. And then we're just going to connect into here. Sanitary vertical down. Looks good. I'm to show your typical go into the wall, go down technique.

I will go over some wet venting techniques in the page sessions as well. That's not really a modeling thing, but it's a plumbing thing. And I know a lot of people want to learn how to do that. So I will definitely show that. So we're going to start right here. I'm going to update the connection size for this bad boy. I'm going go to edit type. And so all of our custom fixtures already have all these parameters for you guys. So sanitary size can be updated to four inch. Click Okay. And now we got a four inch. That's good. We'll go to negative one here. We're going to deselect automatically connect. I'm to go right to that midpoint right there.

And then we'll use our trim extend command. Oh, here's a cool thing that, actually a thing that sucks. Back in the day, this used to drive me nuts. I used the wrong pipe type because sometimes the fixtures use the last pipe type used. That's okay. We'll tab into everything and select all the stuff. We'll change type up here and we'll just simply change it to drainage. And you can see all the fittings get fixed. Now for this, it looks like I need more space. So sometimes what you have to do is you have to lower your piping.

And that's why I actually don't prefer using this in the real world. A lot of plumbers won't really do this. They'll do different techniques, but let's just knock our piping down to negative three so we have enough space. Plus that combo fitting's so big. We'll change type. Go to Drainage. There we go. We have enough space. And then we're going to How do I want to do this? I'm going to hit plus here. That works. And then maybe Oh, here's the trick. I'm going to delete that. We're going to go up, straight up to about there. And then we're going to trim this into that.

And now that we have that pipe here, it allows us to have this little plus, and we could do that. And then I can do a connection. Oh yeah, you have to go a little down. So I'm just going go down to like negative six inches, then hit apply, and that stops the command. Make sure it's the right pipe, see it's not. And then all I have to do, if I have any fitting you can use the connect into, I use it a lot, and you can go to that. So there we go, we got that sweet little connection. This one should be a little easier. And that's why we have our connectors right at the Oops, I forgot to move this guy. Let's move it right there.

And that's why we have our connectors right in the middle here. So I can just easily do connect into, and I have a connection that's literally right where that pipe is. So I can do that. And then we can make connections later and stuff, but again, for now, we're just doing speed modeling. So we got this sanitary vertical down's always at the bottom. That looks good. We got all those. We got this guy. Let's do a floor drain. Let's do some floor drains.

And this is where I probably would have like a little modeling group for floor drains because these are kind of annoying to model every time. So I'm going go to negative one. We got to make sure we're on the right pipe type, make sure we're right through system. Again, we'll do something like this. We'll trim extend that, zoom in here. Let's do our little trick. Let's bring it up. Oh, I want to show this. This trick is kind of fun. All right. So I got this one already. I'm going to tab into all of that. I'm going to mirror this about that little midpoint we had. And then we'll just trim these together. And this is my favorite technique.

Let's pull it up. Boom. Done. All right. So let's see. How far up is this? Let's do six inches above the flood level rim or something like that. You guys are getting plumbing lesson here. Alright. Alright. We gotta do a floor drain in the water service room. I'm actually gonna do a floor sink. You can use a floor drain. That's totally fine. But I just wanted to show off the floor sinks. Kind of move this right where the RPZ outlet would be. Oh, what's going on here? Is this not a Did I forget to move this up? That's why I love Revit because you could just always make these changes. Let's do two foot six here.

Okay. Well, I don't know why that happened. Let's select all of this maybe. It's like it's not connected or something. Sometimes you got to just redo your things. No big deal. We'll do two foot six. Two foot six. And then remember, I can't trim these together, but I can in a floor plan. So I'm going to do that. And then I'm going to add that backflow preventer. You can add the things in three d, which is kind of fun. Let's see, something like that. Oh man, I can't do it. Let's see. Usually it will snap. There we go. All right, we'll delete that. And then we'll just move this into place using our arrow keys, make sure our inlet and outlet is not, we're going to flip it. Let's do the flip again.

I can never find the little rotate one. There it is. It's because it's pink. And I made my stuff pink because blue is kind of like, we use blue. So I don't love the blue highlight. Sometimes I'll even use yellow and I'll use like a dark mode too sometimes. All right, so now we got that. We got our floor sync. We're just going to connect into. Cool thing about these, we got the first thing on my list is a P trap. I need some P traps for these guys too. I'll select both of them. We'll do a P trap. All right, we got the P traps. We're good.

Everything's looking good. Oh, and the lavatories come with a little P trap already on them. Can also draw it. I can turn this thing off. So if I click that button, I can hide this little P trap and draw my own. Totally fine. Totally up to you guys how you want to do things. I show all that kind of stuff. All right, so we got that. Let's do some vent piping real quick. We already have this one right here. I'm just going to use this and do create similar, and we'll just start right back here. Let's see, sanitary. Oh, vent up. I do have a little connection there. And then we'll just go to this guy right there. Let's see what that looked like. Okay. It made the connection. Perfect.

And then I wanna actually connect these two together, so I'm gonna bring that vent piping down just like that. And then I need to connect this one up there. We'll do vent up. Again, have connectors for all this stuff. And then this guy just needs to go straight up here. So I'm just going to do trim extend. And then if you wanted to make it look like the vent, you would have to do, you probably got to back it off first. And then we could change the type. It's actually a different pipe type. And it's not a different system. The system remains the same. All right. And then we'll trim these together. We'll just use connect into, I guess. And then we'll just trim these together.

And then I wanna go up through the building right here. This is where I might use the section. We do have some sections already for you guys in the working view, and I'll go to that view. There we go. And then we're gonna bring this up to the roof. I wanna be about right there, like a foot over the roof. And I usually like round these to like 23 or something. I don't know. All right, trim these together. Looks that, that looks good. We need to connect this one over here. Let's go over in the three d view. Probably just bring this straight. So you can totally do that. Draw pipe.

Let's bring it up to 23. Oh boy, what happened there? Draw pipe. Three d doesn't always love it. 23. You got to go like hover back. There you go. And then hit apply. It's a little finicky. And then we would just check. Oh, that looks good. Perfect. Okay. Oh, yeah, got to do some Vet piping on this drain. Can't leave that one alone. All right, so we got right here. Let's do it in a floor plan this time. All right, I'm going to go to my views here, working. This is how I do that. So I'm going to use this little piece, create similar.

I'm going go from that point. And if you want to do like your little three d thing, you can do it. Oh, I don't have connect into. Let's make sure that's on. Or my connections automatically connect. There we go. All right, we'll go from the midpoint here in this wall. We'll go three d. There we go. And we'll go to about right there. And then I'm going to use the last I'm going to use trim extend for my last one. Trim extend. And then TTR for trim extend. Boom, I pretty much finish it. I think we're done. So I can go home for the day, relax. My job is done, I think. What? Did I forget anything else? Oh, storm drainage maybe? I don't know. All right. That's it. Tyler, you're up. Sweet.

Nice one. Alright. Let's see. There we go. Share. Cool. So we are back. Back to our RTU. We need to get some air terminals dropped in here. So we are going to place those in this floor plan because that's the best place to do it, but we need to go grab them first.

So we've got a few options here. We're gonna grab this sidewall diffuser and I'm just gonna drop it in, make sure it's placed there. Then I'm gonna select my duct, grab that middle elevation of 18 and paste it in there so that this is at the exact same elevation as the midline. And then I need to make sure that air terminal on duct button is checked so that Revit knows I'm trying to stick this on a duct, like on the side of a duct. And then Revit can be a little finicky about how you place these on.

In my experience, the most consistent way to do it is to grab the air terminal by its duct connector grab handle, come over to the side there, and it's gonna pop. It's gonna pop in. And if you tab select, you know, it's connected. If it doesn't change color or if it's not in there and you try to move it and it's moving independently, then you didn't nail it. So then I can so for example, if you mirror it, you would expect it to be connected. Doesn't always work. So do that, and it'll be in there. Now let me get that aligned. Okay. So I've got two of those.

I want another set there and another set there. And then again, I'm gonna I'm just gonna double check that they're actually connected. And these are. So that's good. And I'm going to select those. And if we go back to our ventilation floor plan, I have this set up so that you can see the air terminals. You don't need to see the ductwork on this. I just want to see the air terminals. So I can activate this and I can see, okay, this is calling for, you know, 3,020 CFM. I can come in here and I can type in $2.50 per.

And it's not updating. And I left that so that you would notice something that you've got to pay attention to with spaces. So if, you know, if we look at the three d view, this this shop space is tall. And if we click on this space, it limit offset to eight foot. So if I change it up to 20 feet, that volume is like, the air terminals need to be inside the volume of the space. So that's something to watch out for. Okay. And you can see that it is now reporting the CFM that I'm pushing into this space from these air terminals. So I'm gonna pop back over here. And I actually actually want that a little bit further down like that.

My sense of aesthetics. And I'd like this, you know, same thing over here. Actually, just going to delete that, and I'm going to copy that. Actually, just a little bit, trim that together. And now that is if we go over here, we've got our 3,000 CFM. I'm not gonna worry about that 20 CFM right now. And for duct sizing, we can see that this duct knows it's got 1,500 CFM going into it. This one knows it's got 3,000 CFM going into it. And we'd like to size this, you know, to size down. So I'm just going to add a little cut here.

A little cut there. And I'm going to pop over to my three d view and I'm to tab select just these branches. I'm not going to include this because I wanna make my own decisions about what that's gonna be. And then I just hit the duct type sizing button. Point o eight sounds good to me. Hit okay. And Revit is gonna size those ducts for me. And then I can come over here, tighten this up, make this look the way I want. And this is a little bigger than it needs. It needs to be. What did this wind up at? This wound up at eighteen. So I think I just might make this 20. That looks a bit nicer to me. Okay.

So we're done for now with that. We're happy. I could I could do more on the return air, but I think it'd be cooler if I went over and started working on this space over here. So I'm going to do that. We want a split system. Grab that. There we go. Cool. So we want I wanna put in a horizontal A2. So I'm gonna grab my split system equipment, kinda grab horizontal AHU, which again, I could enter in the the size of it.

I could I could edit the dimensions on it pretty easily. This way, I've built my families, and I want it about right here. And we're gonna go in here. Again, with the three d view, we can tell that we've placed it on the floor, which isn't precisely where we want to be. I can pull this in, see what we're doing.

I'm gonna pull it back up in his ceiling cavity And notice that I've got Ryan's pipes on in this view. One of the reasons to work in working views is that you can have other trades on so that you're noticing what you're about to run into before you actually run into it because an ounce of clash avoidance is worth a pound of clash detection coordination activity. For anyone who's had to sit through god awful Navisworks manage meetings, they're endless. Okay. So that's roughly where I want it.

I'm paying attention to where Ryan's pipes are. I'm thinking about that as I'm modeling. So I've got that. I'm gonna grab my I'm gonna grab an outdoor unit as well. Just gonna pop it out here. There's some cool stuff we can do with this, which we might get into in the paid sessions, but for now, I'll just stick that there. Okay. So before I do duct, I'm going to place my air terminals. So again, coming back over here to my warehouse, I'm going to grab supplier diffuser and I'm going to paste it in here. And man, I'm a hardcore anti hosted families kind of person.

So this is actually a good spot to do, to pull a pull a section and just, you know, spot check that my air terminal is at the right spot. So this came in at eight and something. So I'm just gonna align it to my ceiling. And then I don't need that section anymore. I'm going to create similar to place the rest of these, and these will inherit the height that I want. I'm to grab this. I'm to put this at about nine. And you just watched me earlier with these spaces. This space also needs to be a little bit higher. It needs to be about nine.

Cool. I just wanna show off. I've got a view for air terminals and ceilings. So this has just ceilings and air terminals and mechanical equipment, I guess, on so you can do a quick check even on I use this on even big projects to do a check, make sure we don't have any air terminals that are floating in space not associated with the ceilings. It's kind of annoying to have to do that, but it's a less annoying than having to deal with hosted air terminals in my opinion. That is my style of Revit. Okay, so we're good with that. And then I can pop over back to my ventilation space, or it's my yeah, my ventilation view and say, okay, this needs to be two fifteen. So that's what that's like 110. And I'm just watching.

This one needs to be 190. These need to be two seventy. So even if you're not using Revit to come up with these calcs, can Revit to push the calcs from someone else who made them, put them into a spreadsheet, push them into Revit into the specified supply error parameter that you can then use to have your modelers, you know, pick this up. And so you can just have a pretty fast workflow for that and a verification once you're not like referencing different documents and things like that. Okay, so we don't need this anymore.

We've got our air terminals. I'm just going to do a quick supply air layout for this. So I'm coming off of it and we'll also talk more about duct routing and routing preferences and getting that set up for speed. So we have these numbered and this is purely just numbered in terms of what you use the most so that it's top of mind. And so that you know, you don't have to read the whole thing every time you just know that like, oh, two means rectangular radius bevel tap kind of deal.

So I'm going to go there and I'm going to go there and there like that. And then we're gonna grab that elevation, stick it in there, and we're gonna make that woah. Too many clicks made that connected. Something went wrong there. MEPO one middle section that MEP01, it was still up too high, I guess.

Yeah, was 18. I think I control Zed my that or whatever. Okay. So we've got that. Now I'm gonna cap that open end and I want to put in some branch work here. So I'm going to type CS for create similar that inherits the same duct type, routing preferences, elevation. And I'm just going to guess at what's a realistic, you know, duct size. I'm just going go eight by six for this. Now let's let's watch this because I've got the bevel tap. This is the bane of many people's existence.

So I'm going to draw this and you notice that the tap is going in the correct direction. Hey, good. Let's do it again here. And it's pointed in the wrong direction. So a lot of people are just resigning like, hey, Revit doesn't know which direction it is. It's annoying. I have to come in here. You have to reset the double taps. Actually, what what you can do actually, Revit does know what it's doing. So I'm let's let's watch this. I'm gonna put in the flex duct. Then I'm gonna do another tab. And I guess correctly, That wasn't random. What we did when it guessed wrong, we had an open end here. And when you have an open end in a duct system, Revit doesn't know where the error is going.

Like, it makes sense to you because you're a human. Revit isn't smart enough yet to infer which direction the air is going, so it kinda guesses. And it's I think they actually almost always guess wrong. It's like worse than fifty fifty. So if you want Revit to make your beveled taps in the correct every time, you you just can't have you can't be having open ends.

So that's why I'm doing this. And there there's a few like faster ways of doing this than this, but that's just a demonstration of the double taps. Okay. So I've got that all modeled And honestly, I could have been doing that in three d. So I'm gonna slice that there.

And I mean, here for kicks, just tab select everything, duct type sizing, and let Revit size that for me. And now I'm looking here. So we've got potentially a coordination issue, right? Because we've got Brian's pipes there. Now, I mean, man, we can get into the philosophy of coordination and what you should and should not be doing in your models because aren't necessarily on the hook for our models to be coordinated. But I'm looking at this and I have these colors. You probably can't see that. I have these colors set up optimized for a black back black background. So this is a little close, but I'm looking at it. I'm thinking this works like there's nothing else up there.

You know, this isn't actually a problem. Like, we're good to go in this particular instance. But I think yeah. I think there's actually that is all that I wanted to show for this. So we've got that going. Obviously, we can get in with our turn air and everything else, but I think I'll hand it back off to John. This is nice. Here, can you sync? And then I will put some lights in and coordinate with your air terminals. Yeah. I'm realizing that my piping's going through that main warehouse area. I never ever noticed that part. Yeah. You gotta, like, draw I'm the worst at coordination. I'm like, I just draw my stuff and I'm like, they're going to make it work.

Shouldn't be a Yeah, well, I was recently watching a debate, I think, on LinkedIn about coordination. It's like, I don't know. The contractors are drawing, redrawing all this anyway, most of the time, especially like a lot of the time. And I think that's the way that the industry is going because they are not going to do it exactly like this. Our our drawings are kind of still schematic, even though they're not. So it's it is a tough it's a challenge. So we're going to figure it out, though. That's for sure. Yeah. I mean, that's why I think we we have a a phase in our project where it's like they actually do the level 400 modeling for us.

We don't even get red lines anymore. Well, these are for big industrial projects. It's like we give them the model and they have to fix it all. I'm done synced. Yeah. I was, like, looking at that little so I don't know if anyone knew, but, like, there's a little button down here that's like if it was, like, that spinning logo, that means someone else was still syncing. So I was waiting for that to finish before syncing on my end just so that I have a confession. We don't screw it up. I didn't know about that. What what happened, man? I missed something else that I'm learning. There's Not available for sync. Like, this little button down here. Yeah. If it's, like, in this little box symbol, that means, like, you're ready to sync.

But Nice. Like, when somebody's syncing, it's like a red circle thing. So That's why I do these events. Working working with other people doing what I'm doing. So Yeah. If you go to systems, devices, let's see, disconnect switch. Cool. And let's make sure that's on the roof. Let's see. Four feet. Where can I put it, Tyler? Like, up here maybe? Can I mount it to the unit? Yeah. Sure. That looks fine. Let's see. Yeah. Sure. And maybe bump it up just a little bit.

Five feet. Yay. Okay. So on the roof, I'm going to power up both of these. So I'm going to just control click both, hit power, and it was three phase, four eighty. Cool. And the only four eighty volt panel is p p two. Alright. And then I'm gonna show a little wire coming out of here. We'll tag this. So circuits two, four, and six. Let's make sure. Here it is. Cool. And let's see off the top of my head.

I think that's gonna be 50 amp. So, yeah, that's pretty cool. You see how when I change the amperage, the wire size, already have, like, set up. So that's, like, part of our template thing where it'll help you coordinate that. Just one less thing you have to do. You can automate it. But the only downside is sometimes if you have to do really long runs and you have to do voltage drop, then that doesn't account for it. All right. So let's see. I got this. This is R TUDash1. So I'm gonna put that in here. Oh, for crying out loud. I'd probably had to restart that. Here, let's go here.

Normally, you can just type in there on the schedule. RTUDash1. Perfect. And then sometimes you have these weird Revit glitches where it won't let you type into a box. Like, clearly, I was supposed to be able to think, now I can type in here. I don't know what was going on. Alright. So I got the air handler circuit it. There's a disconnect up there. And now this carries the load. So, like, if if anything needs to change, like, Tyler needs to update the load and everything, he can update it on here. Obviously, you still have to coordinate with electrical. Like, let's say the disconnect size has to go up or something. That's not automatic. But at least the load's captured so that if I go to the panel schedule, you can see that it splits the 15 kVA across three.

It goes down here to HVAC. There's the demand and everything. So that funnels in nicely. Alright. So let's see. That's our circuiting up there. Let's go through and maybe do let's do the lighting. Let's see. On the coordination, I think, on my RCP. There it is. So this is the view that I have. Did you line up with grids? Probably not. Alright. Nope.

Well, I will. So so in this view, like, we have the working view and then the sheet view. So in my working view, I turn on, like, all the stuff that I should coordinate with, like, his air terminals. And then in here, we can go ahead and just place lights aligned to the grid and then kinda I see what he's trying to do. Like, I see you're you're probably gonna hit, I don't know, maybe one over here, one over here, or something like that. But I'll work around you. I'll just put, like, lights in spaces that you're not using. It's real simple. So our fixtures are the ones like, they're pretty generic, and then you can resize them however you want to. And let's say, I wanna do, like, a two by four.

Well, you're doing two by twos. So let's make it, like, the same. That would be kinda nice. So two by twos. And let's say oh, yeah. How do we figure out the height again? I think you Well, I just I just aligned it in a section, but it's eight. It's eight feet. Oh, yeah. You can also click on the ceiling. Like, if you go to the edge, right, and tab, you can click on it. So it's an eight foot ceiling. And then I can go to my light fixture, a two by two. I'm gonna just type in eight feet. And let's, let's drop, maybe one here. I don't know. One diagonal. I don't know if I need, like, four of them. We'll just go there for now. Let's see.

The break room, I can drop one here and here. Copy these two even if you wanted to. Just do something like that. We could push a plan north a few feet, like, clear that, you know, whatever. Obviously, we're gonna have Or tell what the architect at the ceiling grid doesn't make any sense. Yeah, that too.

Yes, exactly. So yeah, if it was like, you know, we could do this and maybe maybe let's just say we argued and I won. And you you get to move your stuff. I feel like you should win. I should win because this is a I don't know. This looks good. I'm just kidding. But anyways, so, yeah, we got the light fixtures in. All we gotta do is just click this, hit power, and there we go. It's all circuited up. If I wanted to, I could just hit this one wire, and it auto wires for me. And then I just gotta kinda show this whole run home run to go home. Oh, it's unnamed because I didn't pick a panel. So I don't know if you guys are noticing, but when I place the fixture, it's red. And then when I power it up, it turns magenta.

And then watch when I select a panel. So, like, let's say I wanna feed this from, I guess oh, yeah. RP one is on this side. So when I pick a panel, now all of a sudden, it's black. That means my circuiting route or service or whatever you wanna call it. My circuiting method is all complete. And then we can go in here. Let's see. Light fixture tag. Is this the only way I can change this? Right? Light fixture. I don't I wanna do more than that. I wanna do, I guess, circuit and zone. I guess I don't really need circuit.

Maybe this one. I just need the type. I'm gonna change this to fixture. Let's just do yeah. Let's just do the type. Alright. Cool. So here, here, here works. And then maybe I'm just gonna redraw this. There we go. Awesome. Alright. So there's that. And let's say, for instance, like, wanna include these fixtures in here. I'm like, oh, there's only four fixtures here. I'm not going to waste a whole circuit doing that. All you have to do is you start with the existing circuit. Hit this, edit circuit, and then just add these two fixtures in here, and boom. If you were to hang on. Go back in here.

Edit circuit. And then if you hit tab, I think if you click on it, you see how, like, if I tab through, there's, like, this dotted line that appeared. Now I can hit this button again, and then it, like, continues circuiting. And sometimes it likes to throw in an extra home run. But, yeah, this is, a great way to just add more fixtures to it.

And this is always an art form, how to get your wires to show to show up. Sometimes what I do is, like, on projects, we actually just don't even show the wires, and we just do something like this where we put, like, the circuit and the type all in the tag. And that that's pretty clean if you don't want, like, your spaghetti wiring. So So there's different ways to show it on on a floor plan. But, you know, just for consistency consistency, let's just do that for now.

Alright. So, yeah, I'm gonna start I don't know. Just put another set of lights in here. Maybe in in meeting rooms, I like to do downlights. So let's do downlight eight feet, and let's do, like, around the I think around the perimeter. You get some. And then usually, there's, like, a desk light over. Let's see. Let's see. Pendant. Let's see. A suspended maybe, like, a suspended one by four. That's like a soft up up down fixture. Let's see how this looks. So if you go back into here oh, Ryan, question.

How did I how did you do that whole opaque thing? Remember So it's underlay verse. So if you go to your Revit links in your view template or Oh, yeah. Yeah. It's the under it's the underlay setting. So if you toggle it off, it will it'll not be. It'll be. Yeah. There you go. Yes. Okay. That's what I want. Right. So if you drop that down a little actually, here. Why am I why am I doing it this way? So let's let's say I select the fixtures, go over to my three d view, hit tab. There we go. Okay. So at least it gets me close. Actually, the I think the last thing I wanna show off is that once you're once we're done coordinating with everything in here let's pretend all this is circuited. We go up to actually, we were supposed to do the circuiting in this view. I kinda did all the work in one spot. So, like, this you see how this view doesn't have, like, all the clutter? Like, it doesn't have the the air terminals and all that stuff. This is a good view to kinda do all your wiring and annotation, I think. Let's see. Where did I do all that? Oh, I did it on the RCP. Right. Yeah. Definitely should not have been. Actually, here's a here's a quick thing. I think sometimes this works. I saved it before.

I think in later years of Revit, it works even better. But paste online to current view. Tags are yeah. Okay. So it does copy, but sometimes, like, what happens is you have to kind of, like, reattach it to the fixture. It's it's not the cleanest. So what we end up doing is just oh, come on. Select on view. Delete that. Click on here again. Electric circuit. Tag. Okay. So I got the wires back, and then I have to kind of adjust it, either the wire or the fixture again. Oops.

Come in. This is the most annoying part is working with a spaghetti wire. I've been avoiding spaghetti wire for a lot of my recent projects. But, yeah, you'd end up, you know, doing the wiring, the tagging, and everything on this nice clean sheet view. And that's it. Let's see. Did I have any questions? No. I feel like man, I wish that a lot of projects that I've done, it would have been so much nicer if, like, me and the electrical person were doing production at the same time, like, just able to screen share real quick. Even if we were in the same office, you know, because it's can be a pain to, like, walk over to someone else's.

That would that would have been pretty helpful. I know. Because, like, as I'm Alright. In here and cable trays stuff, and I'll be like, hey, can I move this? Sometimes it's not a big issue. Like, I was like, hey, can you move this duck like two feet to the left? And it's like a non issue if I just asked you. Otherwise, people sit there like, oh, no. He ran it through here. Like, what am I going to do? Yeah. And there's not like a we don't need a formal process of, like, submitting an email with a form and a ticketing system and all this other stuff. It can just be like, hey. Can this thing go three feet that way? Can we just do that? Yeah. Right. So yeah. Alright. I lost my screen.

So basically this bonus session is kind of going over how you create templates, because these are all the things that we have done that has really helped us build this template. All right, so I'm just gonna do a quick page turn and show you what the final product can look like. So we'll just start here. Again, browser organization is like such a cool thing. So we got a little cover sheet. I don't even do these things, but you can, where it automatically picks up the sheet list, which is really helpful, the stuff you actually have here. And then you can show like a nice isometric view of everything.

So we show, you know, we show you can do that. Obviously you have like ways to do cover sheets. So honestly, this is just text and basically these are all detail lines. So I've mapped those to make sure they're the same kind of color and line type as my actual piping. I got some symbols here that I use, so you can totally use two d elements. Schedules, these are automatic schedules. They pick up the actual fixtures and they also pick up the sizes of the connectors. So that's something that we show. I don't have any details. Don't need them.

All right, let's do that. So if you wanted to do an overall plumbing plan, you totally can, because it's Revit, you don't have to like do extra work. Like I created this and then I just duplicated this and then I changed the view template and it makes it a different type of view. So this view shows all the systems. So you might wanna show that sometimes. So for coordination for the contractor, he can see, oh, there's a vent pipe right here. Maybe I'll hang all those pipes together, stuff like that. Then we have a drain waste vent plan. So your sanitary and vent piping, you can see we're using a fine level of detail with some nice coloring. All of our colors also map to black and white.

So if the contractor gets a colored set and then he decides to print in black and white, it still works. So we were strategic about that. So this is pretty cool. I like the way this looks. And then we have our water plan, which is just a single line. And so for water, you usually don't need to see the actual geometry or actual sizes of stuff. You want basically just see where it's going up and down. All right, so then we got our enlarged views. So again, it's not more work to create enlarged views. They're very easy.

Once you tag it in the overall view, you can just tag, you can And that's what we'll talk about, some techniques that make tagging a little faster. And then in this plan, I actually have it in a fine level of detail, but you can't really see the pipe up and down. So that's the only issue. But at least you could see the widths and stuff. I don't really do these, but I just want to show you can. And then you have an isometric of everything, which is kind of cool. And then you have an isometric of just the DWV or the drain waste vent. And then you have an isometric of just the water. So that's kind of my page turn. I'll go ahead and let Tyler go next.

Yeah, share screen. So this is the actual PDF. So this is my cover sheet. I'm a big fan of three d views. That's nice. As you can see, I actually had side career for a few years in doing, I call it engineering visualization in Blender. This is fun. So I still play play with that way. Yeah. We didn't even talk today about the schedules, but in the, you know, in the, foundations warehouse, you've got the the schedules that talk to the families.

You can just copy paste them over from the warehouse in your schedule sheet. And the data is actually being read from the models. Yeah, we'll talk more about that later. Yeah, details. So, yeah, this is, you know, what what and we'll also talk more about the annotations and how to show things on the on the sheets.

Yeah, we've got these colors configured so that when you print them black and white or if they get copied, it it all shows up pretty well. You can even just like print in black and white from Revit and it it looks good. It doesn't look too strange. But with our filters, it's also pretty easy if you just can't stand filled regions. Just make a couple tweaks to the view templates and it'll print in hidden line, you know, no no filled in things. So easy to do. We just we're just kinda fond of this. I just like, you can just really easily quickly tell like what's going on once you understand the color scheme of what's going on. So I like that a fair amount. We do a little bit of piping.

I just saw some gas piping in here in the workflow videos. I'm working on a full on, like, hot water reheat systems or or so you can see more hydronics, which will be in the workflow videos whenever I finish them. So if you get it, you'll have access to that when I when I release them. Zone plan. And then, yeah, we've got our just a few more, you know, views to see, like, what's going on, you know, with this RTU, ducting exactly how we want that to look in sections showing everything.

So, yeah, at the end of foundations, you will have made this exact PDF or variations of, obviously. You can just take the gist and model your own kind of systems that you like doing yourself. So, yeah, that's mechanical. Let's see. I'll shoot it over to John. Alright. So let's see. Here we go. Yeah. So we have know, some colors on this side too.

I don't use I I think I use it more in my three d views, a little bit on the floor plans, but it this is great to just kind of visually see, like, what kind of systems are in your building. So, like, we have our lights colored as yellow, power distribution is green, and then teledata system is orange. There if you zoom closer, you see, like, fire alarm devices are red. So just, like, really good way just visually see, like, what is all in your project right now. Let's see. Yeah. Schedules and notes, which are really awesome. Like, same thing. We just have everything that, like, talks to each other. So, like, over here, light schedules, they all have their shared parameters that links with the fixtures.

And all our fixtures, you know, you can adjust the manufacturer model, mounting height, and all that good stuff here. Let's see. Single line diagrams. We have most of these, like, kind of, like, little blocks, like, detail components that you can move around. Obviously, I didn't touch on them today.

But you can see there there's these, like, panels that you can adjust if you wanted to to make them bigger or smaller. There's, you know, blocks for transformers and feeder tags and stuff like that that you can use. And you can work completely in Revit if you wanted to, though a lot of people still do, like, the whole they work on it in CAD, and then they, like, link it in, which is a little bit cumbersome, but you can do that. But my preferred method is just do everything in Revit, and you really can these days. Let's see.

Our panel schedules are all talking to our panels. So as you circuit everything up, like I said, all the loads come in here that calculate properly, gives you your estimated demand. And, yeah, that's all our panel schedules. I have another sheet of it. Let's go to floor plans. So lighting floor plan, same thing. It's nice and clean. You can I'm showing, like, a couple of varieties of, you know, ways that you can circuit them. So, obviously, here, you're showing the wiring. But here, if you just wanna show the tags, that'll work as well.

If we jump over here to power, you can see that this is very clean, and everything has, like, expanded views if you wanted to. So, like, if you need to make an elevation view, you can go to view, and it just jumps in here. You can annotate. You can clearly see how the conduits intend to be run. And everything like, it's pretty simple to make these views too. Like, you already modeled it here. All you gotta do is throw a section in there, turn on a couple settings to, you know, show exactly what you want, annotate it, put it on sheet. And, like, you can see exactly what sheet that is. Let's see. We'll go up to the roof plan real quick.

Roof plan, there's not too much, but it's easy to make. And like I said, this is exactly coordinated with, like, wherever Tyler put his stuff. Like, I just refreshed this. It's exactly the same spot on his drawing as our drawing, so it's nice to coordinate. Systems plan, same thing.

You I I like to add a little bit of color to the cable tray just because sometimes it's hard to see what's underneath it. This way, I can actually have the fire alarm coexist with the cable tray and still be visible. And, also, it's just a great way to kinda, like, show them the routing at a glance. Actually, if I go back to power real quick, you'll see, like, maybe it wasn't the best color choice, but we do have a like, you can color conduits too. So you can show the conduit on a floor plan without it, like, being, like, a big blob right across all your stuff on the wall. Alright. Now system. And then, oh, I love this one. This is kind of like taking a page out of Tyler's book. The three d views are amazing.

So you can make three d views of your electrical room, annotate them, drop them in here. So, like, I have a floor plan view of it, and then this is kinda, like, flipped around a little bit to look at it from the other way. Same thing here. This is a utility room. I kinda turned it around. Then you can see, like, how the conduit's coming in and everything. And then you can even see, hey. There's there's some fire alarm devices, and there's disconnect switch. It just gives the contractors a really clear picture of, like, what you intend for them to build. Like I said, there's that section.

If it makes life easier, reduces RFIs, I think it's worth it. That's it. There is one real quick thing I wanted to show kinda to speak a little bit to Michael's question. So on the this is the this is the mechanical production workflow videos that you get with foundations. And so it it goes by step by step, and all the videos that start with projects, that's that's like if you just do those, you will get, you know, that final PDF at the end.

You will do the whole thing. But then there's also supplemental lessons if you wanna dive deeper. So like how to edit most mechanical equipment families is kind of deep dive into that. Getting a little bit more into the families and schedules and copying sheets and stuff like that. So if you're in a space of trying to manage information overload and learning overload, you can kind of take this in passes. You could do this project just doing the actual production work. And then you could come back as things come up in your work or your curiosity gains or you just have the capacity to deal with it and dive into some of these supplemental lessons. So just wanted to make that a little bit clearer. Nice. Oh, wow.

Oh, you're good. I can do it. Going to do he's going to go over equipment family editing, the magic RTU example. So he takes like one RTU and makes it into whatever he wants, which is really cool. Fast hydronic modeling analysis using spaces, kind of like we showed today, but just going more into it. Sheet views, customizing duct routing settings, advanced tagging. And then, John, go ahead. What are you gonna talk about? Oh, man. I remember writing this, but I don't remember oh, setting up. Okay. So, yeah, I'm gonna go over, like, setting up all the distribution systems. I mean, we have it, like, already in template, but it you know, how how to get into, like, you know, putting in voltage, putting in distribution, and how that gets set up in the panel. Yeah. Using spaces for circuited naming.

So, yeah, when you have spaces in there, you're supposed be able to circuit, and it's, like, auto helps you populate your panel schedule. So it's just, like, something that helps you move faster. Circuiting electrical elements, there's so many ways to do it. I just kinda kinda give you options and teach you kind of my preferred way and then, like, what most people just, you know, do with the one slow step by step kind of thing. Let's see. Modeling conduit and cable tray. This is, like, a really popular and, you know, hot topic. A lot of people are scared of modeling these things, and I think it's just they're they're not set up right because they don't use a three d view. So, like, you gotta use floor plan, section view, and three d view, and it becomes so easy. So I'll show you how to do that.

Let's see. Lighting system, schedules, and family adjustments. Okay. So, yeah, like, sometimes different firms do things slightly different. And in order to accomplish it like the way the firm wants, you might have to change, like, a fixture setting to instead of type, it'd be like instance. And then like maybe your schedule, you might wanna tweak it a little bit here and there or like family adjustments. So like this kinda goes into family creation. So it's like, you know, you can go to the family creation bonus course, but then this goes into a little bit more detail on lighting in general. And then using filters to design. So, like, I showed a little bit of that today where, like, you know, if you drop in a fixture, it it was red, and then it, like, moves through the colors as you go.

So it's, like, a great way to QC your stuff When you have, like, multiple conduits or cable trays and you wanna know, like, what's for power, what's for systems, you can add filters to kinda distinguish them. I mean, obviously, you could do worksets or there's many different ways to, like, help you use filters and colors to aid in your design. So all that stuff. Yeah. For sure.

And those sessions will be a little more intimate. So you'll be able to kind of like maybe we're still working on the system on what we're going do, but we might, at the end, we'll go over stuff. And then at the end, we'll go like, we'll do more Q and A where you could actually talk and ask questions. So it's going be a little more interactive. Because we're trying to get people to come to these live sessions Yeah, right just trying to make it less confusing. Yeah, well, switching from imperial to metric, that is, you know, in manage units, can just kind of switch everything over to metric. There's nothing necessarily hard coded Imperial about our stuff. It was built or yeah, Imperial, obviously it was built with Imperial, but I don't think it wouldn't, It could work. You would just have to go through the process of like changing the Just the unit settings of things.

So there would be a process in that. We don't have like a Imperial versus metric version of that yet. Probably in the future we'll do that, but we're just we're kind of focused on the imperial market for now. However, that said, like you could get our stuff and just use it. I mean, it is the case that a lot of times there's content out there that was originally created for, you know, metric and we use it. We just convert it. Revit reads it. And that's why you get things like 13.76723 inches. You know? It's because it's 1,500 millimeters or whatever. Yeah. So Wow. We have 53 people that stuck with us the whole time. That's incredible. I know.

I'm like, you know, I thought everybody it was so funny. At the end, like, I was like, everybody's gonna start dropping off. And then we had more people. I was like, sweet. But we really appreciate you guys and your support. You know, I'm sure a lot of you guys have liked our videos and we're really enjoying. We were working hard for two years, like just trying to build this stuff. It was not easy. That's why I I feel for anybody who's a BIM manager or or anybody who's like, you're the Revit guy. They come up with interesting novel things, more things than I'd ever seen as a BIM manager, just because we're working with so many different people, exposed to all these novel issues and we're able to think about that and fold it in and like, that's just kind of our only jobs. So, yeah, honestly, we're just trying to solve the we're trying to solve for other people the pain that we've been through and that we know about. So, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We're we're definitely and we all have had actual experience. I think that's like the thing that I see a lot.

I see a lot of people who train. They they've had some experience, but like it's limited typically. But you know, me, John and Tyler have been through it. We've been through the ringer. We got we'll get him on the podcast, and I'll show some cool tricks and tips. Every time I Google something that's like, how do I do this in Revit Mechanical? It's like the top response to the form question is like, Kay Lawson is there laying it down. We'll definitely be getting in touch with Kevin for sure.

And any other people out there who are, you know that's the thing. I feel like the MEP industry, it's like we stay low. Like, we hide low. All the architects get all the, you know, all the the praise, and they're so cool. But the MEP people are just, in the corner. You know, we don't wanna be bothered. And it's like there's some really talented people out there. Maybe because we're all introverts. Maybe that's the problem. Wow. I'm just getting pasted over down here. This is great. But one thing I wanted to say, like, we we find a lot of content on YouTube and stuff that, like, is individual trade, and it doesn't it doesn't happen often when, like, the three trades try to work together. Like, it's usually like, hey. Get out of my way.

Are you doing something you know, we just complain about the other trades, but we're here trying to work together so that everything just goes smoother and everyone can just get home at the end of the day. Oh, Rafael, he he put a topic, that I'm very interested in. So I just started learning how to how to build add ins. I'm like taking a cohort for a year. So one of the things that's kind of fun for me is like taking all the things we learn together.

And then especially with AI, I mean, use AI every day. So it's like taking those two and it's the perfect time, I think, to start building some of these add ins that were just too hard to do because I wasn't a programmer, so I didn't know how to do it. So I do wanna like in my side time, work on some add ins there for us specifically that can even just like the dummy schedules, I swear. We need dummy tables. I mean, it's just we need them. And so it's like, let's build something that helps us out, right? Revit's not going to They're not going to do it anytime soon. So anyway, oh, fabrication, man. Don't know about that one, but maybe we'll hire somebody. Yeah, would say short short answer is no.

We don't we don't have plans for that. And I'd like I personally don't have any experiencing that. So I wouldn't be that comfortable. Like, don't have industry experience doing like fabrication. This is like, what are we talking about? Like level 400 modeling and stuff like that? Yeah, well you know, Revit has It's like they have their whole thing that's incorporated, so you can convert your pipe and your duct to actual families that you can make shop drawings out of that sort of things. Like pipe hangers and stuff. I have actually made a pipe hanger family, but it wasn't like the fabrication style. For something else.

But like, you know, I mean, we could if there's someone who's a baller on that who wants to join up, that could potentially be cool. But we're pretty focused on the like, there's a LOD 300 thing. Yeah. And we've we focus on like when we are working with small MEP firms, we were not focusing on like constructible stuff, even though we do it, but we really are focused on teaching them how to do design quickly and get their documents done quickly because it's like, that's what we really are paid to do. But then obviously now we're also expected to do coordination.

The contractors, hey, it's not there in the three d model. And it's just like, a tough challenge. So, you know, that's just part of where the industry is going. You know, in a couple of years, I'm sure me, Tyler and John are all going to be experts at constructability stuff. We're going to have to be, unfortunately, because I guess it falls on us. I don't know. So maybe. Do you guys see that last question? Think it was up ahead. Did address that.

But just to say it out loud. So Anita was asking, you know, is foundations just the workflow videos, the families so foundation is the workflow videos that I was showing you for projects. It's the foundations warehouse, which is a subset of our full families. And it is all the Revit models you need to do projects. It is not workflow videos for full BIM modeling setup. It is not our full template, although the projects model file was pretty much our full template. It's just we've already set it up. Pro tips. Wasn't supposed to say that. And, and it's like, there's, there's an advanced in, in the pro package.

There's like a few more courses in workflow video series, like advanced mechanical equipment and shared parameters and stuff like that. But you do get the foundations families, the projects model files, and the workflow videos with foundations. And then the pro is like everything. And then we're talking pro foundation, that's per discipline. You get the mechanical foundation, You get the mechanical don't get the MEP stuff.

If you want that, you know, it's You guys are getting for the reason that this is kind of cool Launchpad is that you get to see the other trades if you want to learn, but you're not gonna get the families for those other trades. Because I remember when I didn't really know Revit very well, I just wasted so much time. And it's just like, until I started forcing myself to like watch really expert people on how they did things, I was able to kind of learn some new techniques. And once I started learning new techniques, it just snowballed. And I mean, it takes a long time to get good at Revit. But if you can learn from the right people, you get to upgrade so much faster.

And the quicker you upgrade, the quicker you get your stuff done. And man, I remember when I had like forty hours to do something, Like sometimes you would have like forty hours to do what I just did. And it's like, that's nice when I can do it in one hour.
