In this video I'm gonna show how to pull in the mechanical equipment schedules from the warehouse into your project. Now the smart mechanical schedules that are linked to shared parameters and driven by intelligent relationships, that is a whole long topic. We're not going to thoroughly cover that in this series. We have a whole different series of videos on that, so go check those out to do a real deep dive on shared parameters and Revit schedules. This is going to be a quick overview, so with that understood let's drop in.
So in our projects we have a few things, we have air terminals, we have our split system equipment, heat pump and AHU, have a rooftop unit, we have some exhaust fans, and other equipment that we would like to get scheduled. So in the warehouse, if I go over to the Rev X Warehouse and I go to the sheets and I go to the mechanical warehouse one sheet, so this has a view, and on this view this is all of the equipment on the families that we have. And on the left we have all of the pre made schedules. So very briefly, all of our equipment, all of our families are preloaded with shared parameters that we've created, and these schedules are loaded up with those shared parameters. So when both the family and the schedule is in a project, the schedule will read the parameters in those families.
So let's deal with our air terminals first, that's usually where I start. So here we have a few different options because, you know, different firms like to show different levels of information either on the plans or in the schedule. So we have a couple different styles here, and in this one it's kind of a management schedule. It's got all the different parameters you might possibly want associated with air terminals. That's more of a BIM Manager schedule.
Let's grab a style B, it's the simple one. So you can see here this is listing all of the different air terminals that are in this warehouse. So it's listing all of these and I'm going to just copy that, control c, and I'm gonna come over to my projects, my projects file and find my schedule sheet and control v, paste it. So this schedule lives in the schedules section under mechanical, air device schedule b, that's where it is. Now that it's in here, we probably don't want it to be called in style b, we're just gonna say air device schedule.
And now it's got a lot fewer rows and that's because there's just fewer air terminals actually modeled in this project and it is reading those air terminals. Now you will notice that it is just lists one row per type. There are a number of A types, there are a number of B types, there are a number of C types. I've told the schedule to only list one row per type. And the way you do that is you double click on the schedule, go to sorting grouping, and you uncheck itemize every instance.
So if I have itemize every instance checked, it's showing me every single instance of every single one of the air terminals that are modeled in the family. But I don't want that, I want otherwise every instance to be unchecked. Alright. That's good. And this is the type, this is just text.
I could fill in the manufacturer and the model if I wanted to, and that is good for now. And you'll notice when I changed the view name of this schedule to AirDevice schedule but it didn't update the title of the schedule here, and that is because those those can be independent. So if I double click back into that schedule, I literally just type it in here. There we go. So I can have this, I can have the title of the schedule as it appears on the sheet different from the actual view name if I wanted to.
Okay. So that is the AirDevice schedule. Let's go pull in the split system equipment. Alright. Here's the split system equipment and I can come over here.
So here's one to one equipment and let's say that I'm happy with this. Well, I'm actually not happy with this one because this is this isn't this isn't a good schedule for AHUs because it doesn't have information about the fan or the outside air. So I'm actually gonna come over to my sort of more overall split system equipment schedule. And you can see it has a fan, outside air, CFM, columns. This is more appropriate for a system with an AHU.
Now that being said, it's got some columns that I'm not interested in like branch selector box that has to do with the VRV or VRF systems. So I'm gonna remove some of these. So this will be this will be good. This will be educational. So again, I'm gonna select the schedule, gonna control c, copy it, gonna come over to my project schedule sheet, just paste control v, paste it in there.
And it doesn't fit, but that's alright because we've got some columns to delete. So I'm going to double click in here, and so I don't want this column and I have a choice, I can hide it or I can delete it. Hiding will just hide this column, but it will keep the parameter in the list of parameters that are associated with this schedule. If I delete it, it will remove it from the list. It doesn't delete the parameter from the family, so it's it's safe. In this instance, I know this project is not gonna be VRV VRF, so I can delete it. I'm not gonna have that. Let's see, is there anything else that I don't want in here? Yeah. No, that one's fine.
So I've got the sections for branch select box as well, so I can get rid of those. Everything else seems fine to me for now. And this also might be where you want to start filling out the data, the information in these fields. You can do it in Revit, it's not the most efficient to do data entry in Revit, so I encourage you to get a plug in where you can push Revit Excels to Excel, fill out the data and push it back in. It's covered pretty extensively in my other videos, we use d roots, there are other plugins that do essentially the same thing.
So do that if you need to. Right and now this fits on the sheet a bit better. Alright, why don't we grab an RTU schedule, come over to the warehouse, and again we have a number of options for air handling equipment. I'm gonna grab this simple rooftop package unit schedule. Copy.
Paste. Now you might be asking how do these schedules know? How does the RTU schedule know to show the RTU? How does the split system schedule know to show just the split system equipment? Well, every schedule has a filter.
So if we go to the filter edit over here, you can see that we've established a rule for what is allowed to show up on this schedule. So I'm filtering by a parameter called s com schedule filter, which is in here at the top of my list, it's just hidden so you can't see it on the schedule, and it needs that to equal RTU. So if I go over here to my first floor plan and I click on my RTU and I go to edit type, I can see that my SCOM schedule filter value is set to RTU. If I change this, so I'm gonna delete that, I'm gonna say okay, And come back over to my schedule, it's not there anymore. And so I'm gonna set it back to RTU.
So if you have a schedule that is either showing something you don't want to show up on that schedule or you can't see what you do want to see on there, the first step for troubleshooting is to go to the schedule, go to the filter tab, see what the filter rule is, and do what you need to do to make that federal that rule true for the equipment you want on and untrue for the equipment you don't want on your schedule. Okay. That looks good. We've got our RTU, And and from here it's basically all the same. So you know, I need some exhaust fans.
Let's go grab some exhaust fan schedules. See exhaust fan schedule. Let's see. What else do we need? Oh, we need a louver schedule.
Believe that's up here. Yes. Louver schedule. There we go. What else do we need? What else? We've got the fans. We've got the diffusers. That that might be it. Yeah. I guess that's it. That is all of the schedules that we needed for this project. So, yeah, like I said, big rabbit hole, you can go a lot deeper. I have an extensive library of videos going down on that. If you're going to go down that path, suggest you watch all of those and get your understanding.
It is an investment in getting your equipment, getting your information into Revit, getting it all set up. It's not just an investment in effort to get the data in, it's an investment in knowledge and skill. So we've done most of the work in terms of creating the infrastructure, but you need to be very good at Revit schedules in order for it to be a good decision for your firm. So it is a more advanced thing to do. You really don't want to be on deadline Friday 3PM and you are madly trying to figure out why something isn't showing up or why you're clicking a cell and nothing's happening there.
You need to understand it very well to be confident. But once you do get to that point, creating the schedules for your projects can be so very fast and so very efficient. So I do recommend that you get there, but definitely walk before you try to fly when it comes to that.
