Creating Single Line Diagram Right in Revit

Alright. To start a single line diagram in Revit, first, you want to pick your method. There's about three ways you can do a single line diagram in Revit. You can start from scratch in Revit and draw the entire single line using some of these symbols that are already in the warehouse. You can also create your own symbols in here and use that.

So let's start off by doing that. So to do a single line, you wanna make sure that you're using a drafting view. So go up here to the view tab, click on drafting view, and you can type in, you know, single line diagram. And, you know, we just do example. Oh, actually, I already made one.

So, essentially, you know, type in and type in the name of your single line. And then over here in scale, if you well, if you were to wanna bring it in from CAD, I would use, like, the same scale that you drew in CAD. Typically, draw an eight scale. For the single line family items, I think we drew them all in 12 to one. So I would hit okay to make well, if I, here, if I add a one, I can make a a drafting view and then come over here and basically just copy them.

So, like, if I wanna start with a panel board, I can hit copy, come over here, and just paste it in here, and we'll zoom in. So, like, there's each piece over here. I wanna go over here and grab this expandable panel board. So, again, copy, paste. So some of these are pretty smart. I can drag these out. Some people like to have, like you know, maybe they don't wanna show the enclosure. This is more like an SKM style, single line diagram. So maybe, like, you don't want for different things. You can turn this on and off.

These are adjustable, which is nice. We have the connector spacing that you can change. So, like, let's say you want a little more room in between your connector spacing. You can see that how that jumps out a little bit. Now you have to drag this out a bit more.

So there there's some cool features with the families in here, most notably this, expandable panel board. And you can go ahead and just, you know, start grabbing things in here. So, like, the the circuit breaker and copy this, come over here, paste it, and I would move this to the node. And if you click on this, you can see that frame amps, can type in certain numbers, three pull, trip rating, you know, under it. And you can see how that just populates.

And then over here under annotate, we're gonna draw a detail line. You'll see that we have some lines already set up, so either new, future, existing, or demo. So I'm gonna pick new. You can click this to draw your line out here, then move this panel. So if you hit the move command, you can see there's a center dot right there. You can line that up, and I missed. So from there to there nope. I still miss. Goodness gracious. Oh, actually, that is the closest you'll get. Okay. So, yeah, you can start adding panels to this. Easy enough to select everything. So I'm gonna just box over this whole thing. Hit the copy command.

Just copy from one to another if you wanted to. Click on here and maybe this one's a two fifty. Something like that. And if you wanna change the name of this panel board down here, so you can expand this a little bit value. So we'll just call this, you know, panel, I don't know, p p p p one or something. New description, you know, Room 201. I don't know if you want. Maybe MCB, something like that. And you can see how it all stays together. So this essentially is the way you build it in Revit, and eventually, you'll get to something that looks like this.

You can add transformers and feeder tags and, you know, update all this other stuff in here. If you wanna make this bigger, you could just drag it out. So single line diagrams in Revit. Pretty cool. We got you started with the simple the symbols here, and it's pretty easy to create more. If you wanted to, you could obviously modify these. So for instance, like, let's say you want your transformer. We have, like, delta primary. Actually, that doesn't make any sense. Let's do, y primary delta secondary and apply.

So, like, you know, there's symbols here, but if you wanna change it, you can just hit the edit family, and then each one, we built it differently so you can change the symbology in here if you wanted to or create your own. So it's not that hard. But, yeah, that's kind of the first method or the first way of doing Revit in or doing single lines in Revit. And the next one I'll show you is using AutoCAD to be able to bring it into Revit.
