Alright. Placing electrical equipment inside of Revit requires you to go to the systems tab. Then from here, you go all the way to the right. You'll see that there's an electrical portion. Right here, we have electrical equipment. The electrical equipment has everything that's pretty much larger than, you know, outlets and receptacles. So you can see here we have the ATS, the branch panel, data rack, transformers, and, you know, even UPS systems. So our list is pretty condensed, but if you have a really long list and you wanna just search it, this is also a great way to do it. Just type in distribution, you can see that it narrows it down pretty quickly. So I'm gonna click on this distribution panel and then hover my mouse over the floor plan.
And you can see that right now the panel is facing south. Let's say I wanna face it west and I wanna mount it on this eastern wall. So I simply press the space bar on my keyboard a couple times and there you go. Now it's up here. Now you'll also notice that this likes to snap to the front of the panel, but we don't really want it to be recessed in. So I'm going to just click and place it here on the floor plan and then press press escape a couple times. Then you can either drag it back so that it can line it up to match here or you can use the align tool. The align tool is a great way to make sure that all the equipment is lying on his face correctly. So if you didn't catch that, I click the align tool up here. Let's do it again.
So I'm gonna click the align tool, and then I'm going to select the face of the wall that I want to be my reference plane, and then click on the equipment that I want to snap to it. And there you go. Perfect. Now, you may also want to dimension this in this room so that's perfectly in the center. So you can do this by using dimension tool.
So right here under align dimensions, you can click this. And then I'm gonna start by clicking a wall, the other wall, and then if you hover to the center of the panel, you'll see that there's a reference plane in there that you can click on. Alright. So now that we have that, I'm just gonna drag it over here and then there's an EQ button right here for equal. So if I click that, you'll see that it snaps so that it's equidistance from both walls. And there you go. Now we have this placed and it's on the wall and equidistance on both sides. Perfect. So I'm gonna ahead and delete this and I'm gonna unconstrain it so that if I need to move it in the future, I can do though, I can do so. Alright.
So now that we have the distribution panel in, let's go ahead and place a few branch panels and then and a transformer, and then we'll circuit it up. So back to systems, electrical equipment, and then I'm going to start placing some branch panels. So branch branch panels are a little smaller and I like to like to use the front clearance so that I know which way the panel's facing because if I didn't have it, sometimes you can't tell if it's facing south or north. So I'm gonna go ahead and do that. I'm gonna put maybe a a four eighty let's say let's pretend that this distribution panel is four eighty volt two seventy seven and then this is a branch panel that's gonna feed, let's say lighting.
And then I want a panel down here to feed receptacles. So I'm gonna flip this around and I'm gonna place that here. But I'm also gonna need a transformer. So let me just slide this over a little bit, so that I can go from distribution to transformer to branch panel. Alright. To place the transformer, again, go back to electrical equipment, click on the equipment. I'm gonna click transformer and I'll pick a 30 kVA unit. And then I'll also do the clearance boundary and let's drop it right here. I placed it backwards. So to flip this is pretty simple.
I click on this and then I can press the space bar twice and then it goes up and over. There you go. So now the clearance is kind of doing weird things with this. I want to go ahead and instead of doing hidden lines, let's go here to sheet plan. So override oops. I wanna go down to model display. Instead of hidden lines, let's do wireframe. Okay. That's a little bit better. So now I understand this clearance is actually not being met.
So right now, the clearance width is being impeded by the transformer. So I'm gonna grab this whole set and I can actually move it move it down a ways, maybe in the middle of the room. Okay. And then now I also messed up this alignment, so I'm gonna do modify, align. There you go. Perfect. And and then I'm also going to fix the top one. Wonderful. Alright. So now let's go ahead and circuit these things up.
So to circuit this, I wanna start here with the distribution panel and make sure that my selected voltage is what I want. Then I wanna make sure that the distribution panel our distribution system will be set accordingly. And the easiest way to do that is actually just to power this up. So I'm gonna hit power, I'm going to select three phases, four eighty volt and hit okay. So now you can see over here, we have our hang on.
You can see it's three pole, there's wire size, and we can actually go ahead and click on this equipment again. And then we can go here to distribution system and select four eighty two seventy seven. There we go. So now we can circuit things to this distribution panel. I'm going to do the same thing for this branch panel.
I'm going to circuit this branch panel to this distribution panel. So I'll hit power, three phase, four eighty volt and hit power up. So sometimes it may not automatically feed from this panel, so what you'll do is hit select panel and then click on the distribution panel. So now you see this little arrow that points over here? This indicates that this branch panel is now fed from this main distribution panel.
And we can check that by creating a schedule. So I click on the main distribution panel, create panel, schedule, and then over here. So you can see that DP one is now fed from circuit one and one, three and five. Let's see. Go back to here. We probably need more holes in here. Oh, yeah. Let's let's make this, like, 42 or something. Apply. Double check the panel schedule.
Okay. That is now acting really funky. But we're going to disconnect it and then reconnect it. Oh, I think I broke it. And it's schedule, change template. There we go. Okay. Sometimes you have to reapply the template in order to get that error to fix. Alright. So from here, let's say this is a 150 amps and that feeds we're gonna call this LP one.
Perfect. And then we're also gonna tag this. So to tag this, you can go up here to annotate, tag by category, and then let's say I don't really like a leader, so I wanna put it without a leader. So that's d p one, d p two, transformer, and d p one. Yeah. That's that's not the right names for it. So you can click it and change it in one of two ways. You can scroll down here to panel name or you can even just type right in this tag. So LP one, I hit enter, you'll see that it updates the panel name in in the family. Then same thing over here.
Let's call this MDP one. And now this is updated. And then transformer, let's call this here, I'm gonna move this over here. I'm gonna call this t one, and then this is our I'm gonna call this r p one. Wonderful. Okay. So now we go back in here, see that this is feeding l p one, and then now we're gonna connect the transformer and downstream panel board all the way to MDP. So the easiest way to connect a transformer to MDP is actually to start downstream. So I click on r p one. Actually, hold on.
We are going to make sure that t one has a distribution system set. So we need to select the voltage, make it two zero eight, hit enter. And then the secondary distribution system, we wanna set two zero eight one twenty, and then number of poles will be three, hit apply. Okay. And then sometimes you have to double check this. Make sure that that that says two zero eight one twenty. Now this is ready to receive the panel. So go ahead and select your RP one. We're going to power it up. Three phases, and then hit okay.
And then we're going to select this transformer. There we go. So now this RP one is powered by this transformer. Now I wanna take this transformer and power it by m d p one. So go ahead and click on the transformer. Gonna hit power, three phase, four eighty volts, and then hit okay. And there you go. So now we check the panel schedule for m d p one, which also notice it doesn't change here. Anyways, for l p one is connected, and then transformer one is also connected. So let's give that maybe 50 amps t one to r p one.
And there you go. So now we have our distribution system connected. One small thing I wanna just double check. Under panel schedule, once you create a panel schedule, it pulls the name from the panel once and it doesn't rename it. So even though we renamed this to MDP one, you'll notice the panel schedule doesn't change. We'll have to update that manually. There you go. Perfect. So now we have our equipment all circuited together, and it's ready to accept our loads.
