Fixing Line Weights at Different Scales

Alright. So when you're doing single line diagrams, you, of course, want all your components to have the same line weight from top to bottom. So right here, I have a new circuit breaker with a new feeder line, and it terminates at a new panel. So here, this looks great. Same thing for demo.

Demo is demo breaker, demo feeder, and demo panel. And then the existing, it's over here as well. So what might go a little wonky is if you decide to draw these panels in a different scale. So eighth scale is the easiest way to match the model line with the annotation line, and that's because if you go up here to your settings and you go under line weights, you can see that we have three categories of line weights. And over here, the annotation line weight is what's being used for the detail lines.

So detail lines are gonna show up with, you know, a line weight of one. It's gonna show up as point zero zero three inches. And then same thing, I use line one, three, and five for the new demo or no sorry. New is line weight five, demo is line weight three, and existing is line weight one. So when you go over here to the model line weights, you can see that eight scale will match up perfectly with the annotation line weights.

If you use anything other than that, for example, quarter scale or in our example here, we actually use a 12 inch to one foot scale, you can see how everything starts to kinda fall apart a little bit. So you can see this this line, this feeder is a detail line, so it's pulling from the annotation category. However, this circuit breaker is technically like a modeled element, so this pulls from the model lines category, and right now, these don't quite match up. And you can see the same thing here for demo. You can see how the demo circuit breaker is slightly thinner than the demo annotation line.

And if you continue down here, you can see how there's a little bit of a disjoint as well. So this line is thicker than the panel board. So what we wanna do is we can fix this if you already have something drawn in, let's say, 12 to one scale. I mean, of course, ideally, you would draw in eighth scale and everything would just work well to begin with, but let's say you had an issue where everything's already drawn and you wanna fix this. So to fix this, you wanna go up here to additional settings, and we wanna go to line weights.

So if you go over here, basically, you need to add a scale that matches your single line drawings, and then we have to make sure that the line widths will match up to the annotation line widths. Alright. So I'm gonna take a screenshot of this, and we're going to keep this handy. And then I'm gonna go over here to model line widths, and I'm going to add scale. And from here, we're gonna pick 12 inch to one foot so that it matches what I'm drawing in.

I'll hit okay, and then from here, I'm going to just target one, three, and five. And just keep in mind, this is gonna apply to your whole project, so if you end up having some details that are drawn in 12 to one, it's gonna affect those as well. So just keep in mind this is applying to the whole project. Right now, I'm using this to fix all of my single lines since, you know, all three of these are in 12 to one. So to do so to change this, basically, I'm going to go over here and say, alright, line weight one is point zero zero three.

That matches. Line weight three, which I use for the demo work, is a little bit too big, so I need to change point zero one two. I need to change that to point zero eight. Point zero eight. Yep. And then number five is point zero one eight. So I'm gonna go over here. Zero one eight. Okay. And then once I hit okay, you can get you can see there.

Well, you can see that these all start to match up pretty well, and there we go. So now that is fixed. So that's one way to go ahead and make your single lines, the detail line and the model lines match up. But of course, if you're starting off with a new project, just start drawing it in eight scale, and you'll never have to even touch this. So all of this, it it matches up really well.

So over here, you can see how the line widths are perfect. Sometimes it graphically on the computer at a certain zoom length, you'll see how like there might be like a pixel or two off, and I think that's just kind of a rendering issue with Revit. Like right here, there's a tiny little gap, but if I zoom in a little bit that like right there, that's perfect. So don't mind that. That's kind of like a graphical anomaly as you zoom in. I'm here. Maybe if I just connect it a little bit better. There we go. Now that discrepancy, it's invisible. But, yeah, there you go. That's how you go ahead and make all your line weights consistent across the project.
