Emergency Fixture Setup with Battery or Life Safety Circuit

If you have a light fixture that you wanna change to become an emergency fixture and your design uses the idea of putting a battery in the fixture, this becomes really simple. So since your circuiting is not gonna change, you you can actually just go ahead and select this light fixture. And in the model, we already have the emergency variants set up. So all I have to do is click this and you can see now that there's a hatch that appears over the fixture that designates it as an emergency fixture. There's an e that pops up.

And if you go to a light fixture schedule, you can see that it's a separate type. So here, you can expand this and it'll say lay in two by four fixture with emergency battery and then under the model number or the notes, you can designate to have the contractor order these fixtures with the emergency battery built in. If you have a method of powering it up where it's just a separate circuit from a life safety generator, then you may not need these two items. So instead of two separate line items, it's gonna be the same fixture, it'll be the a two four, but instead of having a separate line item, it'll just be circuited differently. So to accomplish that, you can actually go ahead and we connect we're going to change this emergency type from a type based to an instance based parameter and it's really simple to change it.

So we're gonna cancel this and I'm going to edit this fix, edit this family. So once you're in here, we can go up here to the family types, click on emergency, and we can simply change this over here. Edit parameter, change it from a type to an instance. Hit okay, and then we can load this into the project. So now we're going to go back and flip this back to the a two four, but you can see here now the emergency symbol is simply an instance based parameter.

Because these fixtures are going to be identical and we're just gonna circuit this from a different source, the fixture doesn't have to be its own separate line item. So now it can all be the same make and model and we'll just circuit it this this one a little differently. So for example, going to create similar, put this here, and then let's make this the life safety. So I'm gonna call this LS, the life safety panel. Designate this as, let's see, four eighty.

Yep. Oh, yeah. Right. We're power this up and then set the distribution. Perfect.

So now I can go ahead and take this picture off the existing circuit. I'm gonna remove it from the system. And then now I'm going to circuit this one independently to the life safety panel. So from panel, I'm going to select l s one and there we go. So now we have an emergency fixture that's circuited to life safety panel as an a 24 designation and the hatching signifies that it is a life safety egress light fixture.

There we go. So this handles both scenarios where if you have a generator or a central inverter or the previous example where you just have a fixture with a battery built in.
